ha! yes, I see E for effort! as, "to little effort too late" cause F will certainly equate to Failure and the loss of bryant! and the lakers as we knew em!
PG Fisher/Crittenton/Vujacic
SG Bryant/Karl
SF Walton/Simmons/Radmanovic/Noel
PF Odom/Yi/Turiaf/Cook
C Bynum/Mihm/Turner
I'm not sure they'd look to add another forward at that point _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus
I would like Bell with that roster because he can play 1/2/3 _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus

So is there actually any NBA source which has claimed the Lakers have made overtures to Milwaukee for Yi since after the draft? _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

I haven't had time to go through the thread about the Yi trad scenario someone read from an "insider" from CL, but for you to talk about it makes me raise my ears some. Is this just your reaction to that thread and rumor? Is this a scenario you are just hypothesizing about? Or is this something that actually has been discussed and you have heard from someone, sources or otherwise? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

i've heard there's a discussion between the 2 teams - nothing more - and my source is not the poster on CL. _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus

Thanks. Well the Lakers may not be able to get deals done, but at least the FO is apparently not completely asleep at the wheel as some suggest. I am sure if this trade ever got real momentum to it, many would be surprised and the FO would deserve a lot of credit. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service
Only thing Yi would be good for is increasing the team's standing with Asian Americans and the added money flowing in the way it did for Houston. I don't think he'll be able to contribute right away.
I disagree. Have you seen Yi play? This guy is NBA ready (offensively) right now! He has all the moves and then some not mention his sweet j for a man his size. Now defensively he may be a liability but Bynum should have his back.
Bottom line if when can find a way to get this deal done then we will have improved our team in a BIG way. Especially with keeping LO AND Bynum _________________ One Love....

Exactly.
The Lakers don't even need to increase the popularity with Asian-Americans...and it would be more than Asian-Americans because the population of Asian-Americans isn't even that significant. The Lakers are one of the most, if not the most, popular teams in the NBA. Not to mention Kobe already had the #1 selling jersey in China.
Part of it might be extra revenue and exposure, but that would benefit the league as a whole...not just the Lakers, especially with David Stern's intention for the NBA to go global. At this point, offensively Yi Jianlian has shown he can do more than Kwame Brown, Brian Cook, Chris Mihm, even Andrew Bynum...and the only one that is mentioned in the deal is Kwame Brown!
The knock on Yi is his defense, as he is overpowered by stronger forwards but just like with Bynum that will take time. It all comes down to, what do the Lakers do with Kwame Brown? do they keep him and hope there's another disgruntled all-star on the market? (because if there is, I'm all for that)....but if there isn't and Kwame is going to expire and the Lakers insist on giving Bynum/Mihm PT at Center, Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons seems like a fair deal to me.

Man, the FO is never "asleep" like many posters here suggested. Even though we couldn't pull off the big trades this summer, you have to believe that the Lakers FO has been the most active FO in the league this year. It is impossible to pull off a trade when the other teams don't want to trade with you. I know Boston got KG and JO is not a Laker, but it's not the FO's fault that the former Celtics didn't want to trade with us.
There are times where it is difficult to determine whether you are commenting upon rumors that you've heard from others, or just thinking out loud. In this instance, I'm thinking that it's the latter, as your determination that Yi is a possibility seems to be derived from a process of elimination as opposed to "a little birdie told me".
But I'm not completely sure. I certainly don't mind if you're thinking out loud...you always make lucid points, regardless of the source of it. From a reader's perspective it would just help a bit if the context of your comments were a little clearer sometimes.
Anyway.....keep doing what you do, bro. I've enjoyed your articles for a couple of years now.
