We know that Derek Anderson and Nick VAn Exel have been officially realeased. Lakers have been said to be ready to sign DA either at LLE or full MLE. DA did not mind the short (2 year contract). Meanwhile, we also learned that more players including Webber, La Frantz, etc... might be waived... which make the FA more interesting.
Many teams seem to wait till August 15th, the last day to waive a player.
What should Lakers do? |

We are in a rebuilding mode : we have to take the right players for the right price.
I just say : offer DA a starting job and not the money.
If he doesn't bite, we have to take a wait and see approach.
DA is not going to help us win a championship, if we can't make other moves. |

There's no need to rush in signing GA. Of course I'm biased and think that Wafer willhandle the job just fine. |

Some points we should remember folks:
-- If we don't sign DA now, we may lose him to other teams.
-- IF the expected players are NOT waived, we end up with nothing.
-- Even if they are waived, we are not the only candidate for their services... and since other teams may likely offer longer term ( > 2 years), they might join others.
Remember, most waived (to be waived) players are still able to contribute. The only thing that makes them look "bad" is their initial expensive contracts. And with the newly agreed CBA, most of them would look for a full MLE and possibly multiple year contracts.
If Webber is waived today, many still will line up to offer him an MLE. |
