The Pajamahadeen picks a WC video that illustrates the West side and the LA way of being a gangsta.....

Not only is the tune West Boast, but the video is boast. All the freeways and Ese Low Riders.......... mmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmm

Things that Ike Turner would say:

Let Me Ride

Above the Law: Black Superman

Part of the post-N.W.A explosion of California gangsta rap, Above the Law came out of the eastern Los Angeles suburb of Pomona; leader Cold 187um, aka Big Hutch (born Gregory Hutchinson), was joined by KMG the Illustrator (born Kevin Dulley), Go Mack (born Arthur Goodman), and DJ Total K-Oss (born Anthony Stewart). Mixing '70s vintage funk and soul samples with live instrumentation (Hutchinson had studied jazz while in school), the group signed with Eazy-E's Ruthless Records and issued their debut album, Livin' Like Hustlers, in 1990; split into violence- and sex-themed sides, it was co-produced by Dr. Dre (prior to N.W.A's rancorous breakup) and received well in gangsta circles.

Sorry to be ignorant but I was in Japan during the whole West Coast/East Coast feud.

But besides the Playa'z, what is the difference between the 2 styles of rap?

this is how I see it. and i can be completely wrong. East coast is has more heavier beats and sampling and defined more as "hardcore rap". like wu-tang or nas. West coast has a little more r&b sampling in it and more "gangsta rap". talking about growing up in the streets and being victims of authority. IMO, as soon as Puff Daddy's label gained popularity, and no limit and cash money were created, rap in general started going waaaay down hill. all of a sudden rap wasn't about life, it was about how much of everything you had. this started in the mid to late 90's. that's my take.
