if any east coasters want to pipe in, i'd love to hear it.

...also, in santa monica there's a little place called DK's Donuts. incredible. the best. it's on santa monica blvd. a couple blocks west of 20th.
Are you talking about an old fashion cake donut?

out here it's just called "old fashioned." but yes, i think technically they are a cake donut. not once did i ever see one on the east coast.

they look like this:

my buddy in brooklyn--a west coast transplant--is a donut freak. we have gone on major quests and never found one.

do these look familiar?

Why not enjoy it while you can?

My metabolism hasn't slowed down yet so I can eat whatever I want without becoming fat.

Of course, I still stay away from fast food mostly and so on but I don't see anything wrong with a Krispy Kreme once every month or something.

I'm not obsessed with sweets and desserts. I used to be but my hapitite isn't what it used to be plus when I eat something sweet I start to feel bad.

I love donuts! I love Krispy Kreme's original glazed, and also their cinammon donut.

For other donut places, I'm easily satisfied by your standard, run of the mill rainbow sprinkle and regular old glazed.

I lived in New England for awhile and became a big fan of Dunkin Donuts...but that's really all about their coffee.

Winchell's is good. Pretty much any donut place is good. I used to go to the "banana stand" on Balboa Island for their donuts, but one time I noticed a bunch of flies inside the case where the donuts were so I stopped visiting.

I don't get donuts as frequently as I'd like. (My health is probably thanking me for that.) I probably haven't had one in at least 6 months.

My favorite donut is a round white frosting with colored sprinkles. It's probably about 2x your daily recommended sugar intake, but well who cares.

Old fashioned cake donut, extra crispy, no glaze. Used to really like a French Crueller, but I don't see too many of those around anymore.

Also, to Tim Hortons, and our neighbors to the north!
