I'm not a punk fan anymore, in that I don't know any new punk bands, but I'm wondering who and why are the best punk bands out right now?

In my day, that is the days back yonder when I listened to nothing but punk, I listened to:

Operation Ivy
NOFX
Rancid
Social D.
Descendents
FYP
Pennywise (only self-titleled and Unknown Road)
Swingin' Utters
Lagwagon
Gorilla Biscuits
Minor Threat
Black Flag

So, what has replaced these great bands and why?

I never got into punk really, as I was more of a metal head in my youth. But I always really liked and respected NOFX. I have no idea about the modern punk scene.

Modern Punk has a lot in common with Modern Hip Hop. In both cases, the truly original artists were long ago replaced by flashy but inept "artists" chosen by marketers.

I hate all subcultures. I hate punks, I hate Emos, and I hate metalheads.

Every subculture is a bunch of idiots trying to act a specific way. Especially Emo kids, I really cannot stand them trying to act all sad all the time.

And yeah, it seems that Emo music is more popular right now. I like the actual music, but the lyrics want to make me vomit.

''You could slit my throat, and with my one last gasping breath, I'd apologize... For bleeding on your shirt.''

I don't understand this obsession with wearing black, covering one of your eyes with your hair, and cutting yourself.

At least show some commitment and cut deeper...

Bands like Rise Against and Anti-Flag are still pushing the political message.

Some of those bands you listed are still going strong like
NOFX
Rancid
Pennywise
Lagwagon

My favourite band is the Dropkick Murphys.

The punk culture seems to be dieing, but you still have bands with similar music and values. It's just been overrun by the emo scene.

No mention of ATDI or are they not considered punk? One of my favorite bands ever.

vanexelent, dusted off my old Op Ivy CD's the other day and saw them play Gilman once - just awesome.

If you hate all subcultures then do you hate rap?

wouldnt necessarily place rap as a subculture... "gangsta rap" for example would be a better example but not rap as a whole since metal/emo/punk are all branches from Rock-N-Roll and we can take Rock-N-Roll further back to Jazz, Blues and R&B... but opinions are @ssholes so there's no use of trying to adjust them to your liking

I listen to whichever ones, if any, are on Guitar Hero.

For real though, GH has been my only exposure to bands who feature an electric guitar in their music.

Now i have a playlist with music by Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, Killers, Slipknot, Disturbed, Tenacious D and Weezer. I have no clue what genre theyd be considered though.

At least he's creative. He cuts himself by picking his nose too hard, as opposed to the cliche' razor blade route...

Yeah, but not to the point where I cut myself or am doing it on purpose. And it really isn't that bad, actually. Just kind of that kind of feeling when you are on a vacation near it's end.

i'm not some musical indiana jones where i'm supposed to look inside someone's ass for good punk music. point is, there is none out there right now. The only few good bands i can think of off the top of my head that's been around for 10 years or less i can count on 1 hand. Rise Against, Tiger Army, and the Distillers are a few i can name.
