|
|
Just heard this on ESPN radio from Chad Ford. He was talking about how Blair had surgery on both his ACLs in high school, and when NBA medics took a look at his knees at the combine, they found out he didn't have ACLs. However, NBA doctors are split as to whether you actually need ACLs to be a good player, so it shouldn't hurt his positioning too much.
I just thought it was one of the weirdest things I've ever head in a while. _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

So Dr.'s performed surgery on both his ACL's in high school but yet he doesn't have any ACL's.
And the 2nd part to my thoughts is, how the hell can you walk with no ACL's?
Are you sure you heard that right? _________________ Think about how stupid the avg. person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Not possible. He just hasn't had any problems with his ACLs since high school. |

Well I guess you can't tear your ACL if you don't have one. Maybe Bynum should get his MCL's removed. _________________ ...in my opinion. |

That's what Chad Ford said one NBA GM told him. "If he doesn't have any ACLs, at least we know he won't tear them" _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

You'll notice from the linked diagram that if you have no ACL then your femur and tibia aren't going to be connected so well. You won't be playing any basketball and probably won't be walking without an ACL.
His ACLs may well be shot. In which case, he's not going to be playing basketball for too long anyway. But I'm quite certain he has ACLs in some state of repair or disrepair. |

I'm not an orthopedist but I think this rumor is false. The only time a person can get away without an ACL reconstruction is if they plan on significantly limiting their athletic activities.
There's no way a college or professional basketball player could play without ACLs. |

Congenital absence of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a rare condition that has been reported only occasionally with other anomalies such as congenital dislocation of the knee, congenital short femur and congenital absence of the menisci. The association of abnormalities in the development of the menisci, condyles and tibial epiphysis has been explained by embryological studies, because these structures develop from common mesenchymal tissue. We report the case of a 12-year-old boy with congenital absence of the anterior cruciate ligament; he was previously treated for a valgus knee in another hospital. _________________ Hope for the best. Hines Ward has been playing in the NFL the last 12 years without an ACL in his right knee. |

This is such an interesting thread, who is right? Can you play in the NBA without an ACL? |

The obvious answer would be "No, you can't play" but apparently NBA GMs and doctors are split about the issue _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

For those that watched the NFL Draft, anyone remember Erin Henderson's free fall in the NFL Draft. Most people said he was a second rounder at worst and he ended up going undrafted because of his "lack" of ACLs. _________________
