|
|
The Lakers visit the Memphis Grizzlies tonight for the second time this
season, rolling strong having won 5 of their last 6 games, and on the
last game of a 6-game road-trip (4-1).
In their last meeting, a 85-73 loss for the Lakers also played in Memphis,
the Grizzlies sent the Lakers under the .500-mark for the first time this
season.
In the their November 14th meeting, both teams shot poorly, with the
Lakers taking the inefficiency honors with a 32.5% mark. Memphis shot
37.8%, but also fared better in rebounds, assists and turnovers.
The game was not as close as the final score would indicate. The Lakers
trailed by a score of 42-33 at the half, and 73-47 after 3 quarters*. For a
team having scored only 47 points in three quarters, coach Phil Jackson's
statements after the game dripped with his trademark calm.
"We were relying on Kobe [Bryant] and Kobe couldn't shoot the ball
because of a hand injury," said Jackson. "He was just reluctant to shoot."
Laker forward Lamar Odom was more to the point, "We're doing
everything to lose a basketball right now," adding that the Lakers failed to
trust each other on either end of the floor.
The Lakers enter tonight's game with their prize offseason acquisition,
Kwame Brown, back in the lineup for his third straight game after an
absence of roughly three weeks. Brown is coming off of his best
performance of a short season with 14 points (6-of-6), 4 rebounds and 3
assists in 27 minutes in Dallas.
Bryant also had an impressive game with 43 points, 5 rebounds and 4
steals which included a critical reverse layup which drew a collective gasp
from even Maverick fans, and a turn around 30-foot three-pointer with 34
seconds remaining in the game to give the Lakers a 2-point lead.
* We gotta serve 'em back for that one

So... any predictions for tonight's game?

Being that Pau is 2nd best player on the court, i'll go with the team with the BEST player.

I'm gonna say they feed Kwame again and he ends up with 10 points, 4/7 and a trip to the line, 5 boards, 2 assists and 25-30 mins.
Kobe goes back to pass mode and ends up with 20-some points.
Lakers win by 6. |

Ok, you guys are worrying me
There are only 5 votes so far, and the ONE vote for a Laker-win is from me...
...to make things worse, and the beginning of the 6-game trip I guessed we'd go 4-2 and I had us losing to Minnesota and Memphis (which means my vote doesn't count for much in my own mind!) |

That's more like it! Look at those Laker-wins! About time all you homers showed up <j/k>
Alrighty, you kids got about 35 minutes so if you're gonna pop off on some player-stat predictions or anything like that, let's get to it...
I'm changing my prediction to Kobe going for 75 points like he should have that night of his career high when he got 56 in 3-quarters. Oh, and Smush will dunk on Jerry West during the pre-game. |

We lost 4 or 5 in a row to them I think. So we need to break this streak.
