A third of the season in, it's time to ask if this team will make the playoffs.

There's a lot of people complaining about the team not playing so well, and there are others who are optimistically suggesting this team will gel and start balling.

Do you think this team will make the playoffs?

It will be farily difficult for the Lakers (as composed) to make the playoffs but not impossible.

5 spots will be locked up - their Division winner (probably Suns)
Spurs, Mavs, Grizz
and someone has to win the other crummy division between the Wolves and the Nuggets (most likely)

That is the top 5 seeds in all probablity.

That leaves the other Div. loser there (Wolves or Nuggets) fighting the Lakers, Jazz, GS, and Clippers - unless the Kings or Sonics get off their tails for 3 spots.

it could well come down to tiebreakers with the same record for the 7-8 spots.

The 2 biggest things going for the Lakers is an easier 2nd half schedule than last year, and the fact they are led by Jackson who has rarely missed the playoffs = the worst thing is that they are one Kobe injury away from a bad stretch.

^ That's my concern. Kobe tends to have one 8-10 game injury per season, and he hasn't had one yet. I'm hoping his off-season conditioning and changed role within the triangle will help prevent him from having such an injury this year. Of course, ankle injuries and the like cannot be prevented though.

With 52 games remaining and a tough January schedule, a 26-26 record the rest of the way seems reasonable if no "grand" trade is done. That would come out to 41-41 for the season.

To get five more wins ( 46-36 ), Lakers need to beat up on ALL sucky teams, beat half of the good teams the rest of the way, and protect home court 75% of the time.

Will be a big struggle if they stick to the current roster.
