These could very well be the future of the Lakers. Kobe can't play forever. I can only dream. _________________ The most important shot in basketball. |

Eric-
Do you think Straw might at least get a camp invite ? LEt him battle it out with Critt for the 5th/ developmental guard roster spot that will be open once Sasha gets dumped at some point to a team under the cap a la Chris Mihm ? |

If he doesn't make it in the NBA, then he definitely has a bright future in Europe because he has the type of game they salivate over. |

I really hope they both make it and I don't see why not. Ebanks has an in because Walton is our only backup 3 outside of going to Kobe at the 3, and Walton is totally unreliable. Caracter only has to be equal or better than Josh Powell who only got about 10 mpg, which shouldn't be that hard to do. |

Cousins is now #1. Caracter needs a strong performance. |

babyskyhook - possible - but i don't think he's got much chance to make the team
cx44 - teams can sign second round picks to 2-year deals at the min - to go longer than 2 years - a franchise would have to either use cap room or the mid-level exception. _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Eric...Have you heard anything about Critt? Will he be invited to our training camp? Is his foot OK? |

There's a little old school game in Caracter, reminds me a little of Mark Aguirre. Pudgy with an inside out game. Looking forward to seeing him in preseason. |

I assume this was in answer to if we'll invite him to camp....not if his foot is OK. Any word on if his foot is OK and why he's disappeared? |

Good news! I hope we do invite him and he comes. Would like to see what he can do playing with us again.
Do you have any idea where Barnes will be announcing he's going tomorrow? Any rumors out there? |

Thanks Eric.
I would think they would want both Strawberry and Critt (or similar players) in camp to see who would make sense at a min price, as it seems like dumping Sasha prior to the trade deadline will be Mitch's job # 1 as far as in-season moves (if he can't get it done sooner).
I just can't imagine that Dr BUss will pay lux tax on Sasha's deal. |

Just came across this.
I don't know how good MIchael Eaves "sources" are. He's never struck me as Bob Woodward, so he could have been talking to the team's caterer.
But, FWIW, from Twiter:
Michael Eaves: One #Lakers insider tells me that DJ Strawberry reminds him of Trevor Ariza before he left the Lakers

I had a chance to watch Ebanks and Caracter play the last few days on video. They do look pretty good. Ebanks could be that SF we're looking for to give Kobe or Artest a rest. He's athletic and long, kind of like Trevor in a way. He hustles. Caracter hustles real well too (both sides of the ball). He has a little more size or girth compared to Ebanks, but I like the way he fights for position both offensively and defensively.
My only concern is relativity. This is the summer league, and the competition doesn't come close to what we see in the NBA, nor should it. So I struggle with my conversions (points in this summer league to points in the NBA) when trying to translate their skill set to regular NBA competition.
As far as the group of rookies coming into the league? Hats off to our scouts. I think we could have 2 of the top 15 rookies in the NBA. That's pretty remarkable if you ask me considering when we drafted them. I can't say that they're NBA ready out of the gate, but they should be able to get some minutes on the floor if we keep them. The upside looks good. |

so, what would happen to them after 2 years?
we wouldn't have the bird rights, so how to keep them if they turn to be very good (like arenas for example. i know this is a long shot)? |

most la would be able to pay would be mid-level - so yes, it's a risk they could be out-spent. _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Couldn't we go over with the Gilbert Arenas provision? Then again hard to predict the future CBA when its expiring. |
