I am no Odom-basher... I think he is a solid player who happens to be overpaid. I would only trade him if we get something of real value in return. I think this trade qualifies, and that it makes sense for both teams.

We get depth at C/Pf with an excellent prospect in Frye. We also get a fiesty PG and a big expiring contract. Because Frye and Robinson are both Rookies, we can figure to go through some real growing pains with this deal, but in the long term it could really pay off, as we would have lots of young talent and cap flexibility.

New York gets a player that Larry Brown really likes. Lots of pressure in the Big Apple to win now, and there's no doubt this trade helps them in the short term. They lose a big expring K, but get back two smaller expiring K's to lessen the financial blow. Likely Larry Brown sees Lamar as a guy he can build around, and also likely his peeps welcome him home.

So what do you think?

Here's the trade:

L.A. Lakers Trade Breakdown
Outgoing

Stanislav Medvedenko
6-10 PF from Ukraine (Foreign)
1.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 3.5 minutes

Devean George
6-8 SF from Augsburg-MN
6.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 22.4 minutes

Lamar Odom
6-10 SF from Rhode Island
14.3 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 5.5 apg in 39.6 minutes
Incoming

Nate Robinson
5-9 PG from Washington
8.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 20.2 minutes

Channing Frye
6-11 C from Arizona
14.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 0.9 apg in 25.9 minutes

Anfernee Hardaway
6-7 SG from Memphis
2.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.0 apg in 18.0 minutes
Change in team outlook: +3.8 ppg, -2.1 rpg, and -2.2 apg.

New York Trade Breakdown
Outgoing

Nate Robinson
5-9 PG from Washington
8.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 20.2 minutes

Channing Frye
6-11 C from Arizona
14.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 0.9 apg in 25.9 minutes

Anfernee Hardaway
6-7 SG from Memphis
2.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.0 apg in 18.0 minutes
Incoming

Stanislav Medvedenko
6-10 PF from Ukraine (Foreign)
1.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 3.5 minutes

Devean George
6-8 SF from Augsburg-MN
6.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 22.4 minutes

Lamar Odom
6-10 SF from Rhode Island
14.3 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 5.5 apg in 39.6 minutes
Change in team outlook: -3.8 ppg, +2.1 rpg, and +2.2 apg.

Successful Scenario
Due to L.A. Lakers and New York being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. L.A. Lakers and New York had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Trade ID
Every trade made by fans is allocated a unique Trade ID which you can share with friends and fellow basketball fans to allow them to see your trade scenario. The Trade ID for this scenario is 2873942.

probably not. i didnt want to trade lamar earlier in the year. but he is playing like crap lately. he looks TOTALLY lost out there. we have the worst #2 option in the division. Artest, Maggette, Jrich, Marion are all better than Odom.

And New York does this why?

If your logic is because Larry Brown likes Odom...

He LOVES Nate Robinson and likes Channing Frye as well.

So, based on your "like/love" logic, this ain't gonna work.

I disagree with your assessment... I think there's a real chance that NY would do this. I think Odom's value around the league is considerably higher than we think around here. Also, New York sucks, bad. Odom gives them a player right now, and I bet Larry Brown would think he could get a lot more out of Odom than Phil is getting now.

But let's say NY wants a bit more, so we up the offer a bit by tossing in the Miami pick... or maybe we take Ariza instead of Robinson.

If you want to trade Odom, you've got to first see who would want him. I think NY would be a top suitor. Don't forget, most think that Odom can play PF in the East.

Where is this value you speak of. Who can we get for an 11mil a year rebounder who turns the ball over. come on Vlade. Sure we can trade him but we wont get the 2nd we need.

Of course New York would never do it but as a Laker fan, any trade that sends Odom away is a good one.

NY would never do this trade. Larry likes Lamar but he also really likes Frye and Frye doesn't make 11-14 mil plus over the next 4,5 years. And, then you want to add Nate Robinson as well? No way that NY does this trade.

I mean damn give Lamar some time. He is doing fine. When he is on fire you guys are prasising . When he doesn;t have a big offensive game but still drops like 9 assists and like 12 boards it's the end of the world. I in one do like Lamar Odom and still se a very bright upside for this guy. Well what really counts Phil sees the same thing as me.

We've given him 1.5 season as a Laker and 8 seasons as an NBA player.

He's still dumb as the day he first entered the league (arguably dumber) and he still cannot defend or finish with his left.
We're talking about being a dumb basketball player too, not a dumb person for MENSA... I'm glad he's not out in the real world making important decisions, like whether to give super-sized meal for his customer or not.

If Odom gets caught smokin' refer again, and he gets suspended, does that take his contract off the cap??? If so, plant that crap in his hotel room, his house, shove it up his dog's ass, do whatever, just tempt the heck out of him with ice, boom, pow, crack, weed, whatever, lets get Bosh.

I think someone should put a bug in Artest's ear, and convince him that LA is the place for him. Hollywood, whatever. He's not happy.......I don't know.
But Lamar and George/Kwame for Artest. Let's face it. We need at least one more legit player on this team or forget about it. Alright realisticly maybe it's not Artest but we need to see something.

Interesting how several of you think that NY would never do this trade, and yet a sizable minority (presumably Laker fans) wouldn't even do this deal...

Without Frye and Robinson, the Knicks have nothing to look forward to in the future. That's an extremely unfair trade.

I am in agreement. I think we should start lookin'. I have hindered myself from saying it and efended him, but he has been horrific. Can't shoot, inconsistent. When we get to the playoffs, do we get good odom, or suck balls Odom??? Which will it be?

I'm with you man! I won't trade Lamar at this point unless it's for KG period. But I also see a tremendous upside and his value to the team. Lamar shouldn't be traded.
