Quote:
KSL has learned that Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and assistant coach Phil Johnson will resign at a press conference later Thursday.

More details will be posted as they become available.

The news comes after the Jazz lost to Chicago in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, where former Jazz players Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer helped the Bulls escape Utah with a 91-86 win.

After the game, Sloan didn't come out of his office for a postgame interview until about a half-hour after his team lost for the 10th time in 14 games.

The Hall of Famer, who usually talks to reporters about 10 minutes after the final buzzer, had been in a discussion with general manager Kevin O'Connor.

"We just had something we had to discuss," Sloan said, "and we'll talk to you all later on about that." A major part of the discussion, however, was the possibility of a trade in the works.

I feel sorry for SLC. Nothing worst than a crochety, ornery old man with a ton of anger and lots of free time.

It's going to play out like that last scene in Blue Chips where Nick Nolte walks out of his last press conference, comes across a bunch of kids playing a pickup game and starts to coach them, except this time, Jerry's going to have them all crying and pissing their pants within 2 minutes.

Thought so, DWill has not been happy and they probably hashed it out last night in the locker room.

It was a good run for Sloan. It won't be the same without him.

Motion offense fairly similar to Lakers with a healthier dose of Pick and Rolls.

Hard ass that makes guys play hard all the time.

If Phil retires this off-season, I'd make a strong bid for Jerry Sloan.

Seems like he had enough of Jazz not willing to spend to put a great team out there.

Im guessing this pretty much ensures Deron Williams is leaving first chance he gets.

Doubt that's the case. They're sixth in the league in salary and are a small market team. They've paid out for guys.

I just think the team has tuned him out. 20 years of the same berating voice...

You'll see Sloan coach the Lakers right about the time you see Rush Limbaugh open for Lady Gaga.

Exactly... he's lost the team.

Surprised it's taken this long. Deep in the back of every player's mind for the last few, they all knew it was futile. No matter what they did, the P&G would put an end to any run.

I like Jerry, but I think it's time to step away from the game. I'm not for seeing him in LA. Don't think he'd be the same coach at this stage, especially w/out that built-in Utah home advantage.

Oh didn't realize that saw it speculated on twitter as a reason he was angry. I know they let their best shooters get away last off season in Korver and Matthews because they didn't want to pay. Last season they also trade away Ronnie Brewer for a 1st rounder to save money which I remember made Deron real mad.

All they got to replace those wing players was Raja who is nearly done and isnt a great cutter who would fit into the system and hasn't even been his normal reliable self shooting 3s. AK is a big expiring contract which they are likely just gonna let run out to save the money.

Im sure its hard for a team in a small market to spend that money but they do have a reliable following. I could see why Sloan would be mad at the recent player moves which were partly money related. Blazers made a offer to Matthews that made it hard for the Jazz to match and they didn't. Korver led the NBA in 3 point shooting for them last year so all thats gone including Boozer who fit in nicely.
