Actually I might have been wrong. Seems the report now is that Deron is actually forcing Sloan out.

At least according to.

I am a big Sloan fan. His teams (barring this year) always execute well, and fight tooth and nail for the win. As a fan, what more could you ask for? Imo, they always seem to over achieve given their talent levels, and the motion offense is very fun to watch. Jerry was just unluckily enough to face Jordan's Bulls, and thus, never won a ring. Its a shame, because he definitely deserves one.

Something must have hit the fan for him to leave in the middle of the season like this.

I wouldn't mind giving Sloan some burn in Los Angeles. As a fan, I think it would be a great thing to watch.

Wow. So how long before the crazy Utah fans turn on Deron for running Sloan out of town?

Something happened because he just signed a extension the other day.

If DWill was mad at Sloan yesterday for berating him then I really lost a lot of respect of Williams. The truth is that he, as the all-star point guard of the team, failed to execute out there in the final minutes of the game which could have given the Jazz the W.

I wouldn't be surprised to see if he left to join an elite team after his contract is over. After all, its pretty much the trend these days.

^ My thoughts exactly. Sloan is more of a "fan favorite" and face of the franchise than Deron. Stupid move by the Jazz if this is actually the case. Release a 20 year head coach to appease a disgruntled primadonna point guard? For those of you who want Deron In the P&G, forget about it. You could see it last time we played them, he has not only given up on his coach, he gave up on his team. I doubt that many teams will be willing to build a franchise around this guy now.

Take Kobe 2005. The Lakers stunk, he drops 81 and continues to wow the crowd on a nightly basis. Team gets better, Kobe rides it out and Bang! Back to back rings.

Deron 2011, team stinks, his game disappears and he pouts, the entire franchise suffers. Forces out a coach who in all reality may have been his best shot at a ring.

Albeit there are factors in each case such as what the Franchise has done to build around the Star. In Kobe's case, Buss did what had to be done and made the moves, spent the money. In Deron's case, seems like the Jazz are just trimming salary and being cheap, so I'll give him that just to be fair.

Also, as i stated in the "other" Sloan thread. If Jerry does retire, as well as Phil. The NBA will be suffering a huge loss as will the fans. Truly sad.

WOW! Utah will regret this move. Sloan has been a staple of that organzation for over 20 years and is one of the best in Basketballl. Deron is a hell of a PG, but its hard to see them picking Deron or siding with Deron with what Jerry gave that organzation. He will be missed in Utah book it!! Sorry to see him go, but even more disturbing is the pre madona player forcing him out. Jerry has done everything but win a title and has coached the two of the best in Malone and stockton. Surely he has the knowledge and know how to make Deron a better player... Problem is Deron's ego wont let it happen. Sorry to see sloan go! love his fire and passion!

Agreed.

There are only 3-4 coaches in the league that TRULY make a difference. The rest are a bunch of retreads you roll out as a face to talk to the media while they have zero impact on teams wins/losses. Sloan is one of the difference makers.

Not a surprise. Since Larry Miller passed away, I'm not sure who runs the franchise.

Phil Johnson will not be taking over the head coaching duties for the Jazz... he turned in his resignation with Sloan.

I admire his loyalty.

I know it's a business but if this is true, I just lost a ton of respect for Williams.

+1

We're losing two of the greatest coaches ever in the same season.

I wonder if Sloan will hang it up for good, or come back coaching? He was already the oldest coach in the NBA at 68.

I can't imagine him coming back. This news sounds like he's done.

Sad, because he was a hell of a coach. If Williams had something to do with that then i definitely just lost some respect for Deron.

Jerry's team had the best overall home record (133-31) over the last four years (this year, not included). Yet, on the road, they were mediocre at best coming in at 73-91.

I think the "hit 'em hard, and hit 'em often" football style of basketball works quite well in a crazy arena in your home town... especially if the refs are scared ****less of the town. Yet, on the road, not so much.

I've always liked Sloan as a coach and appreciated his hard-nosed style and approach. But, in today's league, that ain't enough. Home cookin' will only get you so far, and managing personalities is just as important as game planning.

Bummer to see him go out like this... he deserved better. But, I wouldn't want to see him as a successor to PJ.

Always annoys me when people get those two mixed up. In this case, Sloan actually did both!

Dwill...is he a cancer now that he's forced a coach out?

This all reminds me of something Jeff Hornacek once said of Coach Sloan... that he is so confrontational you start to wonder whether you should punch him. Hornacek said that he could fight Sloan, and maybe even had a chance of winning... but he'd probably lose a testicle.
