All,

We are currently experimenting with a new feature that requires users to have at least 100 posts before they can start a new thread. After we gauge the effects of this feature we will decide whether to keep it, remove it, or change the minimum post count.

Users who pad their post count in order to get to 100 will be dealt with in the harshest manner allowable. Consider this your one and only warning not to pad your post count.

Thank you sir, this should be a great aid in reducing the number of duplicate and/or ignorant threads.

Great idea - this will improve the quality of LG, no doubt!

I proposed this years ago when we were getting a lot of spam/commercial spam posts, especially in OT. Lots of threads telling us to go to some Russian or Chinese site to buy cheap phones and Viagra. LG has done a great job of cutting those.

And having people post 100 times in a game thread will be good, because it will require them to spend time here, learning the site, seeing how it works, before creating a new thread. Which is exactly what we want.

Now we have to find a way to keep posters like ElginBaylor from being able to create new threads.

In a perfect world, this is how I envisioned New Topic Policy here:

If a user has less than a 100 posts AND s/he is new (ie. less than a month since joining), s/he is not allowed to create a new topic. That will truly prevent the trolls from posting no matter how hard they pad their numbers in the game thread. They have to wait a little longer before they can scratch their itch.

If s/he is not a troll, it's still a win-win situation as s/he will be familiarized with LG culture, like what encina said.

Finally. A good percentage of the really awful, redundant threads seem to be started by newcomers trying to make a splash and not realizing the same thing has been talked about dozens of times before.

Hopefully this will somewhat combat the glut of bad threads we've had the last couple of years.

Maybe tweak it a little further....only 1 post credit per game thread.

I vote 100 posts or 30 days, whichever comes later...

FWIW I don't like the new policy. Lots of people have things to contribute to the discussion before they get to 100 posts.

Maybe they can PM someone to start a thread for them.

And they can. They just can't start threads. It's a fair compromise to weed out the trolls IMO.

And really you should be well familiar with the site before you start posting new topics. You get a sense of what maybe redundant etc.

Gives the mods a chance to see what you post like and deal with you before you get thread-starting privileges.

Good. Glad I was the one who came up with the idea.

Well, keep trolls and moaners from the "Post Thread" button.

If it all fails, raise the post count to 500.
