Even if they did have options, im sure they'd wanna take paycuts out of their 10-20 millions just to play with Kobe. |
im sure about kidd im not so sure about camby... i think he will be available... both of em are ring less im sure they would take the paycut to play along side of jackson and kobe ....just like payton and malone |
Do you have any idea how NBA contracts work? Camby and Kidd are
both making very big money.
Contracts go up each year in annual salary. The last year of a 7-year
contract for instance, you're making nearly twice what you made in the
first year.
Kidd and Camby are not gonna "opt-out" of the last year of their contract,
even if they DO both have player options in 2007.
And Ron Artest doesn't have an opt-out until 2008.
You're seriously underestimating how much money matters to most of
these players - not to mention the offers they'll receive from tons of
other teams whenever they do actually become free agents.
This isn't NBA 2K6. We're not the only "user" team while the rest of the
league is set to "CPU" and will let us track down any players we want. |

Okay, I'll bite:
Pipe Dream:
5 - Bynum
4 - KG
3 - LO (he wouldn't have to be a #2 guy anymore)
2 - KB8
1 - LBJ
Bench:
Who cares
Semi-Realistic:
5 - Mihm
4 - Bosh (max contract offer based on cap space)
3 - LO
2 - KB8
1 - Smush Parker
Bench:
Sasha, Bynum,
and whatever scrubs Mitch Kupchak ends up putting together again. _________________ Just chill and watch the new Dynasty evolve...

I had an idea... but you kinda clarified it with that example... SO I guess were pretty much stuck with the same players with the exception of 1... And I though Ron will be available to opt out after 07 |

JJ reddick or Jordan farmar
Kobe
Odom
Bosh
Bynum
turiaff, parker, vujacic, wafer, mihm
that's my pov. if we can acquire either of these juys in the upcoming draft, i see them as a long-term solution to the PG problem. especially reddick, a perfect tri PG. |

Nope. There was some confusion on that when Ron first demanded a
trade, so I can understand if you were left with that impression.
But I looked it up (as did a few others a week or two into his
"sweepstakes") and he has a player opt-out in 2008, otherwise he's
under contract until 2009.
Considering he makes half what he's worth talent-wise, it's almost a
given that he'll opt out in 2008.
If I'm slightly wrong on the details then I apologize, but I *AM* sure that
he's locked through 2008 - because his contract would have cut into the
"2007 cap-space summer."
Emplay actually wrote an article about it, talking about how if we HAD
moved Odom for Artest, that we'd end up with Artest's contract instead
of Odom's going through the 2007 summer - and would actually thereby
have more cap-room towards free-agency. |

Easy to make this a little more serious. place a limit, total team salary less than 50 mill, only one player currently on a rookie contract allowed, in addition to Bynum. But I'd like to see this:
Ben Gordon
Kobe Bryant
Boris Diaw
Eddie griffin
Andrew Bynum
bench: Mike James, Luol Deng, Chris Wilcox
maybe a little weak up front. Add Reggie Evans to the bench. Shotblocking, rebounding, 3pt shooting galore, and playmaking - with athletic defenders.

If forget the exact numbers, but Odom's contract (as we know) goes
through the 2007 summer by a couple years or so. I'm sure someone
knows the exact numbers as they escalate each year, but I think in 2007
he makes in the neighborhood of $12M.
Artest on the other hand makes less on a smaller contract, and would
have counted somewhere around $7-8M in the 2007 summer.
So what Emplay was saying, is that had we traded them, we'd have a
player replacing Odom who counted less against the cap that summer,
leaving us with more room to re-sign our own players and towards
a key free-agent that summer.
As for whether keeping Odom is a good idea for us towards the 2007
plan, is a matter of opinion on how you value Odom.
I happen to think Odom is NOT the answer as a 2nd-option.
I also think though, that he could be a great 3rd-option.
With Odom still on the roster, we still have the money to make a run at
a max-contract player in 2007 or 2008, it will just be very tight (it may
for instance cost us to where we can't keep Kwame for the 2007-08
season on our 2007 team-option, or that we might be unable to re-sign
certain role-players without sacrificing the ability to swing a max-contract
for whomever our target is).
Some would rather simply trade Odom right now for a 2nd-option and
allow Bynum to become the third piece on his own.
I happen to like the idea of Kobe, Odom, Bynum and a "2nd option" max
contract guy a couple years from now - even if in the meantime it might
be ugly at times.
The tricky part in THAT plan though, becomes making sure we can resign
Bynum
Basically there are alot of valid sides to alot of different strategies.
That's why there are always so many arguments on here about it. |

This is the pretty realistic IMO:
PG - Who cares?...just get some guy that can defend.
SG - Kobe
SF - Odom
PF - Garnett
C - Bynum |
