To put it simply kobe needs to hit another hot streak he had in january. He needs to heat up for the last 2 months off the season. |

If the past is any indication, kobe usually plays his best post allstar break. |

I think the only way Kobe has a real chance is if we were to win the Pacific or win at least around 48-50 games. Which, as we know, is next to impossible with the crappy players he has to play with. It seems like historically the MVP goes to the best player on one of the best teams. Kobe probably didn't win it in 2003 because we won only 50, while Duncan's Spurs won 60.
Having said that, i don't think it's fair to penalize a great player for playing on a mediocre team by not considering him for MVP, because it's usually not their fault that their teams suck. It's not Kobe's fault that most of the other guys can't/won't step up on offense or play good defense. It's not Iverson's fault he's played on mediocre teams for much of his career (right?). On the other side of that, I think it's insane to consider someone like Chauncy Billups just because he's the best player on maybe the best team. He's solid, but one of the best in the league? Hell no. That team doesn't even have any true stars. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

Just thought this was interesting and had it already on my clipboard from another thread. But at NBA.com they have a poll running for the past few days asking fans who the MVP was so far this year:
Kobe Bryant, Lakers
41%
Chauncey Billups, Pistons
12%
LeBron James, Cavaliers
11%
Steve Nash, Suns
10%
Dwyane Wade, Heat
8%
Dirk Nowitzki, Mavericks
7%
Other
5%
Elton Brand, Clippers
4%
Tim Duncan, Spurs
2% |

1 Steve Nash is the clear frontrunner. He's doing it all and is the best team player/leader/winner in basketball today.
2a Dirk Nowitski &
2b Lebron James are in a dead heat. Dirk b/c Dallas leads the West and Lebron b/c of Cleveland would be a Lottery team w/o him.
3a Billups &
3b Kobe are in a dead heat b/c even though they play polar opposite roles on their teams they are getting the most from that play. Simply put, Billups makes the Pistons the championship favorite, and Kobe makes the Lakers anything (instead of the nothing we would be).
4a Brand &
4b Wade are in a dead heat b/c neither are arguably the most important player on their team w/ Cassell's leadership and Shaq's game changing size being huge contributers to each team's success.
others that wont win...
Duncan, Parker, KG, Marion, blah blah blahbittyblah |
