We are not going to extend him this summer, and he has some value-does this decision make any sense?

We won't extend him.

But if Kwame's contract is in fact guaranteed for the 3rd year, or we've
made a move by then that kills the 07/08 plan - then we may re-sign
George for less money.

As well as he's played of late, another team may offer him more than we
want to match - and I'd prefer to move him while his value is what it is,
but it's not all too terrible to keep him on the rest of the year either.

dg probably has lewd photos of jerry buss/mitch kupchak or something...

seriously, i think the lakers are packaging him if, indeed, a move is made...

Better get something damned good. George has been slightly short of fantastic off the bench.
The thing is to flirt with a chemistry that shows glimpses of finally comming together at this point would be suicidal. Unless you're talking KG you can only hurt the team by making a deal just for dealing sake...

Who ever would be comming in for a guy like George if such a deal were in progress would be under incredible pressure. George is red hot, knows Kobe and, is a tri veteran. Cut off a finger and try to pick up a glass? Bad move...

Because he knows the tri.
Because he is one of the few guys on the bench that show a little consistency.
Because Puke Walton sucks.

I'm leery about re-signing him given his past injury history and streaks of inconsistent play. I say trade him now while his value is at its' highest. He is playing well, but his talent is far from irreplaceable.

DG is 28. He and his agent, are going to be looking for some long-term stability as this may very well be his last contract. I don't know if his play this season could net him a 5-year MLE from another team, so hopefully the Lakers won't try and lock him up for that long if they decided to re-sign him.

Yes, I have. I've also watched him play many games over his 8 year career that made me sick.

Because our organization has plummeted down to a point where George is the second best perimeter player after Kobe.

Because the Lakers are not committed to being a better team and/or making the playoffs this year.

The dark side of the 2007 plan is to just play with what we have now, and if that means losing seasons, it is the short term price to pay for becoming a better team long term. But for last year and this year, the ship has been deserted. Ift it means that DG is let go for nothing at the end of the season, that is just more of the ongoing price to pay to get better in 2007.

I'm not saying I like it, but there it is.

Hanging onto DG now because he knows the tri and has been playing well of late is short term thinking. We aren't winning a championship this year.

Given that it doesn't seem like there will be a great FA option for us to use the cap space on, we'll need to acquire a player via trade rather than a FA signing.

Packaging a valuable expiring contract into a deal would help us make a move to build toward a championship, so we need to move him.

So who EXACTLY do you trade for DGeorge for that's playing as well as he is right now?

Devean should not be traded and may be like Fox; willing to take a lower value K for the right to play with the Lakers.

I think we are going to be in better shape in '07 thru FA. I'm good with that as long as we are not wasting Kobe's prime.

Phil Jackson likes Devean George, as do I.

Though he was huge trade bait, I think Devean wants to remain a Laker. He's an important part of our team.

But here's a question... say if the Lakers don't re-sign him next year... which team has interest in him?

No DG = No Playoff chance

Look at the hit we took when we lost Profit. DG adds even more.

Basically. The real question is why is Luke still on the team.

George is solid, and also an expiring contract. if we trade him, we have zero cap room this summer. this way lakers can try to add a piece in the offseason. lakers will be fine...

I have always been a huge Devean supporter. He brings a lot to the table in my opinion. He can play defense, hit the 3, and is a decent rebounder.

The knock on him has been his inconsistency and his injuries, but don't ever question his effort. I love how he has been playing lately, and I'd love to see him back next season (for the right price).

DG is good for the remaining of the season, he knows the system, his a better player coming off the bench than if we traded him for DA or Flip. Pretty good defender, got the 3 shots, and mid range jumper.

I was wondering, Lakers could still sign n trade him during summer raii? if so, then it wont b a total loss...

with mihm, Lamar healthy, and easy 2nd half of the season, we should make a good push for the 6th seed.

Knows the Triangle better than anyone on this team not named Kobe Bryant.

Provides energy and defense off the bench.

Has actually been known to hit an open shot.

Has championship experience.

Is the best bench player we have.
