Given what it would have cost us (full MLE for 2 years), and seeing this team play for 50+ games, acquiring a veteran player who could consistently score 10+ points a game probably would have equaled 5 more wins.

I'm not saying he'd make us a championship contender, but would have made this team a solid top 6 in the conference. Probably made us more dangerous in the playoffs as well.

Any more finished than Divac or Mckie or Anderson?

I think he would have helped us win 4 or 5 more games so far. Getting 10 points on a consistent basis would be pretty significant for this team.

Sprewell passed on the Lakers, not the other way around. I thought Rambis had confirmed that a few days ago.

But sure, just about any veteran guard would have been a solid addition.

RG73 is correct. I wish he hadn't. Having a nice veteran core of Kobe, Spree, DG and LO would really have helped in the 1st half. We may have actually been 5-6 games over .500.

Then again, you may only live in the present, no matter what you think of the past or future.

I agree. Seeing how the Lakers seem to fall apart offensively (unless DG or Cook is hot) when Kobe leaves the game, they could really use a guy who can score, and defend as well. Lamar just cannot carry the team on his own.

Technically, he may have passed on us, but IMO that had more to do with the fact we weren't offering the full MLE for 2 years. So, in effect, we lost out by lowballing him.

Again, not saying he'd make us a 1 or 2 seed, but would have helped us win games and, considering how we've spent the MLE and the lack of production from those players, been a reasonable risk.

That's okay. PJ's goal is play-off right now. Next year maybe attempt to the championship if we can get some help in free agency.

I wish they would take another shot at Spree and also look at adding Delk when he gets released soon. Added before March 1 and they can still play in playoffs I think I read yesterday.

Spree seems to be done with the political side of basketball.

Delk would be a nice vet p/u.

Agreed raffi, seeing that the lakers spent half their mle on a guy that has barely played (Mckie) it does seem like a significant mistake on the lakers part to not pick up spree. He can put up 20 point a game, can move off picks and would have picked up the slack during Odom's learning curve (hopefully Odom is done with the learning curve finally). Attitude is hard to predict but i think he would've helped motivate the younger guys to play harder. He would've added fire to the locker room, which the lakers have probably needed. I say about 5 games more in our favor right now with spree is about right. I wouldn't count on getting spree in the future either, our management is so cautious right now to make any move its weird.

one more thing, spree is not finished not anymore than eddie jones is finished, and i think it would've been nice to have eddie jones come off the bench for the lakers now

How in sam hello did you want to get Eddie..
I like Eddie as well...Still can play on both sides of ball..
But he makes a (bleep) load of money.
No way we could afford him ..

Spree would not have fit with this team. The guy is selfish. He proved it by letting monetary matters affect his play in the final season with the Wolves. The guy wanted to be paid and the only thing keeping him back right now from signing with any team is the money. So don't put all this on the Lakers. This guy was greedy and not worth the chemistry issues. Say no to Spree.

Actually, we could have had him as part of the Shaq trade - we had our choice of Grant or Jones. We went with the "big", which isn't bad logic until you look at who the big was - HUGE mistake. Acquiring that contract alone made it the worst trade in franchise history . . . absolute salary cap suicide.

If Spree has so much value left, how come none of the teams in the league are interested? You'd think a guy that can get "10 points on a consistent basis" "and defend as well", would have gotten at least ONE legit offer. Spree, at this point, isn't the answer to any of the Lakers' questions, nor apparently ANY of the 29 other NBA teams' either.

How does Pop know? Has he been eating dinner at the Sprewell residence?

Wait, that's right.

They don't have enough money for that kind of bountiful feast
