Yeah that's why he was on the phone with Chris Paul this week. "sorry Chris. I like my team as is"

I doubt that if the reports are true that Kobe and Paul have been in communication with each other. I think Kobe would be in favor of this deal, just like he was with the Melo situation. Two good friends/Olympic teammates.

What are chances were swinging a quiet deal with Orlando while everyone focuses on Paul?

NO leaked this. I posted as much a page or two ago. It's clear that the best offers are either the Lakers/Houston or Boston. If NO leaks the details of the two competing offers, the other parties may be pressured to sweeten their offer a bit.

It really doesn't make any sense to me that professionals actually do business like this.

NO gets offers from suitors. It isn't quite satisfied with them. They can pick up a phone and call up the respective trade partners and say "hey, Boston is offering us X...can you top it?" As opposed to calling up a guy from ESPN and saying "Boston is offering this, and LA is offering this..." and then the respective GMs are scouring ESPN and Twitter and whatever to see what the competition is up to.

I mean, yes, I suppose people are, in fact, that stupid. I'm just not sure what the point of involving the media middle man is other than to intentionally drive up interest by driving traffic to those sports media sites. But it is a very roundabout and potentially disastrous way to do business.

That's what I thought: if NO was unhappy with an offer and wanted it sweetened, call the other guy and let him know what he needs to do to get a deal done, and so on and so on.

This leak just smacks of unprofessionalism and jumping the gun. I leave it to you to connect the dots.

SGH

Nah, it's common. Teams leak the details of talks all the time. It seems clear to me that various parties routinely use the media as middle men. It could also be that's there's too many people with knowledge of what's going on so it's impossible to keep a secret. Your Jimmie dot scenario though is just wild speculation at best.

Source says Hornets thought they were very close to a deal to send Chris Paul to Lakers but then Lakers backed off. To be continued.

Lakers could be pissed that the Hornets let the deal out. Maybe the Lakers felt like they were being used.

Thats Mitch's move. Just like trying to pick up a really hot girl. You back off and act like you can do better, then she wants you more. the Hornets will be back.

I think the worst thing of all for me as a Laker fan would be if the Celtics pulled off this trade.

btw, new york killing their cap space impacts the howard situation.

that's one less free agency suiter which is kinda bad for us in a way, although as long as the nets are there this could even work to our favor since howard may have watched his favorite free agency destination taken out of the picture, and will finaly try to force his way here.

one more thing - turiaf for tpe please !!!
especially if we get paul, and even if we don't and plan to go after howard - turiaf would be a huge help.

unless there's a plan in place for a quality guard using that tpe, we need to grab turiaf.

Seriously! That needs to get done regardless of what happens with other moves.

Previously reported that Kobe and Paul already spoke on the phone. Plus, if Kobe was unhappy with the prospect of getting Paul, all he has to do is call up ESPN and leak that fact...

That has been Mitch's MO. As a matter of fact, he is even more sneaky. I would not be suprised if the Lakers after all this do some trade with NJ for Deron Williams or something like that.

That's so funny - I actually know who this guy is as a Jets fan. He "broke the news" two summers ago that Darelle Revis got signed 10 different times. Now, obviously, he was right the last time, but there were a lot of misses before he got it right.

I will say this - he's a radio personality, so he does have some sources, so his credibility isn't ZERO, it's more like 25%...

lol you overvalue your players. Scola is 31 and so is Gasol. Gasol is obviously the better big man. Yes you lose Kevin Martin but dude is as injury prone as they come. And ur GM line of thinking is Gasol will give you guys some of the things Yao used to give yall. I think its a fair trade for you all the parties involved considering the situation. But if thats not good enough for you folks, then no problem.

I'm not overvaluing our players. Right now our team is mediocore. Good enough to contend for a low playoff spot but not good enough to get any high picks to land top prospects. So why gut our team to be in the exact same position?

Sniper008 wrote:

NEWS FLASH tho: You are NOT getting Chris Paul! because he won't sign an extention with Houston. That is why you're GM is not stupid enough to trade for him straight up.

Our GM will trade for him without an extension. I just don't think our assets are good enough to land him. Which makes this rumor even more infuriating, because if they are then get him....not Gasol.

Incarcerated Bob was the one who got a bunch of people to retweet the message, he's been known to throw things on the wall to see what sticks. Saw that very early, but wanted to wait for a credible source before believing a deal is anywhere near being done.

I'm getting worried about New York and their plans to get CP3. They are going to amnesty Billups to sign Tyson Chandler and package a deal around Amare for CP3.

My only hope is that NOH favors the Lakers 3 team deal with Rockets instead of what Knicks have.

You now have

Bynum/Scola
Scola/Odom
Artest/Barnes
Bryant/Kapono
Martin/Fisher/Blake

More important you have a lot of trade assets for Howard - Bynum, Martin, Scola, Odom.

I love Pau, but if I could get Scola and Martin for him, and a pick even, I think I would strongly consider that deal.

ha, like i said - i'm late for the party (page 81), but other than the first shock that new orleans would be interested in these two guys, my secondary thought was that i'd take that rockets package regardless if i'm the lakers...

I'm with the two of you.

Yeah, that is what Jerry West once said in an interview. Back in his day, two GMs could work out a trade between them on the phone - no lawyers, middle men, cap specialists, hanger ons, etc. Today, teams of people are involved and it is very hard for deals to not leak.
