When I was in Long Beach I used to frequent a small chain of hole-in-the-wall restaurants bearing the name of Casa Sanchez. I don't know if they're still around but the food was great. There was also a beautiful girl who worked in one of them that I dated...

They are still around, did you go to the one on Anaheim Blvd?

Good guess! I take it that was the one you frequented as well?

Uruapan Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood.

Fish tacos, carne asada, and shrimp burritos are crazy good.

Local food spots all day.

There menudo is on point and they will serve it to you how you want it (i.e. sans hominy, pig's foot, etc.).

But, their chile verde burrito was a little dry ... almost as if they just took carnitas and put it in the verde for few seconds. Very disappointing.

Not to mention, the women that work their are zero charisma and it may have something to do with an elitist attitude toward those that don't speak Espanol. They do give you good portions.

Best chile verde was at a place called Guadalajara in Santa Fe Springs/Norwalk city line. A victim of the economy, they've since closed.

If you like lengua, El Toro Bravo in Costa Mesa is definitely worth a shot.

Been to the one on Anaheim twice. Not bad. Unfortunately, no more eye candy serving so far as I could see.

You'd have to go back to 1985.

Loteria is good. Personal fave is Tico's Tacos on the Westside. From the 1970's and 80's - Sal's Mexican Inn (Oxnard); the best beans of all-time.

Loteria is more than good. It's one of the few places where Mexican Food excels and becomes Mexican Cuisine.

I live in the San Diego area but grew up in LA.

Unfortunately for most of you, San Diego blows LA away when it comes to Mexican food.

My favorites:

Taco Shop's -

Roberto's Solana Beach, Del Mar or Encinitas Locations

Juanita's - Leucadia

Sit Down Mexican

Fidel's in Solana Beach. You gotta go there.
