There is no excuse for Odom. He can't even avg better than Cook in more minutes. He gets payed the big bucks to score. Score the basketball Lamar! |

Lamar's scoring average has decreased every month since the start of the season. |

Sounds like Cook is now the second scoring option. Unfortuately, it has not translated into wins in Feb.....

Full minutes would yield about 20ppg, so if he can get better on defense, the Lakers will be in great shape. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

The reason Cook is scoring this much is because he's not affraid to shot the ball. With Kobe really tring to get his team involved it's actually nice to see someone actually stepping up to Kobe when he tries to get people involved.
As for Odum he's never been a true scorer, he's always been the guy that liked to set people up. Since he hasn't grasped how to do it in this system, he's going to continue to struggle. when it comes to scoring his game is all about individual mismatches, and for him to score off the dribble, and in this system it all about movement and working the ball.
Kobe gets away from the system just because Phil has given him the green light to. When Shaq was here and Kobe would get away from the system that's where the trouble started. Phil is smart he knew back then that Shaq was the best way to win. Now it is Kobe and since he is he doesn't really mind him doing what he does now because in all honestly Kobe gives us the best opportunity to win. |

In the past 9 games......
15.6 per game....... and on only 10 shots per game......
26.7 minutes per game
57% FG%
If he played a consistant 36 minutes per game he would be averaging about 21.0 a game........Thats a great 2nd option to our personal scoring machine Kobe......
Problem is his "D"...... and his 4.4 rebounds in that stretch ( about 6.0 in 36 minutes)......But Odom's good rebounding kind of off sets this lack of boards from cookie.....But most importantly he makes the opposing teams honest.....they have to worry about him......allowing Kobe at least some breathing room.....

Considering his passivity, the fact that he's leading the team in assists isn't surprising. The fact that he's leading the team in rebounding says a lot more (negatively) about Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown. |

Cook weakness is on the defensive side, his lateral movement is not that great kind of slow footed. I think he would be a better rebounder if he actually boxed out just because he doesn't have that great leaping ability. |

You can sorta tell which guys Kobe is confident in. Probably the most in Cook, Devean, Smush from behind the arc, and Sasha is working on it. And Mihm |
