I remember hearing that the deadline to sign players and have them eligible for playoffs passed...Does this hold any truth, or will we be able to use JJ in the playoffs?

You can sign someone up until the last day of the season and include them on your playoff roster.

I think the dead line is on Friday. It's not untill the end of the season, unless something was changed with new CBA.

I thought that a player must be waived by March 1st in order to be eligible for another team's playoff roster. JJ was waived last Wednesday, March 1st, by the Phoenix Suns. Therefore, he is eligible to be on our playoff roster.

I read just the other day in a newspaper that players had to be waived by last Wednesday to be eligible to be picked up for playoffs by another team, and that such a player could literally be picked up on the last day of the season as long as they are included on the playoff roster that gets sent to the league.

perfect timing for this signing, a huge win two nights ago, and now a little leadership for the spurs game and the rest of the season. Its little moves like this , that give confidence too a team.

I'm not sure why the league would have a deadline, because what if you have an injury or two at a key position in the last week of the season?

To prevent roster "stacking" for the play-offs.

If that is the case, when are we going to waive McKie and which veteran big are we going to pickup?

Penberthy was terrible... he was a great shooter, but hardly played because he couldn't do anything but shoot. Sasha is a much, much, MUCH better player than Penberthy. The comparison is terrible.

That said, Jimmy Jackson here should allow the Lakers to play a much bigger and physical backcourt in the playoffs... Kobe, Jackson, George, Odom, Mihm/Kwame.

Yes - the deadline is for waiving, not signing.

All in all, not TOO bad, I guess...

I would have loved to have the Jackson from about 3-4 years ago, but oh well, what can you do?

The roster -- ASSUMING they can play defense consistently for 4-5 games at a time -- should make it to a respectable 1st round, or maybe to the 2nd round, depending on the matchups.

Beyond that? Oh boy...

I hesitate to say this knowing the Lakers' recent history, but with McKie having a contract that ends in summer 07, he has value as an ending contract that Medvedenko didn't.

So to just waive him, means if he does play again then we'll be paying for him to sit on someone else's bench.

If he doesn't play, then we can't use his contract as part of a future cap-related deal.

We haven't managed to do much, if anything, with ending contracts lately, but I hope that trend will stop.
