Gasol - Barely above average #'s against average teams = POW? They've gotta be trying to spread it around..... |

dude, pao was having an awesome week as well. let it go. looking at the numbers, and i have to say that they are impressive. kobe is due to be POW most weeks.
everyone knows he's got a damn good chance to be the MVP, or at least get a ton more points than he previously has gotten. |

POW is a joke.
It's NBA marketing propaganda.
It's specifically designed to spread the love, and to let fans in any given
city get hyped about the "stars" on they're own team.
I don't blame the NBA for doing it, it's good strategy.
But if you get your hopes up about Kobe or any other player owning the
POWs for weeks on end, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. |

Are you guys kidding?
He had two sub-par games for him this week.
Sure, the one against Detroit was magical, but if they give out player of the week to Kobe for every one of his 40+ outing on a win, it'd happen just about every week. |

His games from "this last week" as they consider it for this particular POW
would be...
28p, 4r, 8a, 3s
35p, 6r, 5a, 2s
42p, 4r, 4a, 3s
40p, 5r, 4a, 0s
Combined...
36.3 ppg
4.8 rpg
5.3 apg
2.0 stl
(3 wins, 1 loss during span)
As compared to his average, that's not too far off normal.
The question is, do you reward a player for having good numbers "by
his standards" or compare more directly?
Gasol for instance...
39/10/3/3
23/7/7/2
17/7/6/2
Combined...
26.3 ppg
8.0 rpg
5.3 apg
2.3 bpg
Would you rather Kobe's 36/5/5 + 2 stl, or Gasol's 26/8/5 + 2 blk?
I personally would rather see them take the guy who's had the better
games, not the better games by HIS standards - but the flat out best
player from a given week.
Like I said though, POW is NBA marketing propaganda, and they very
purposefully choose guys who outperform compared to their normal
averages/performance. |
