Thanks for that. Would you mind throwing in the Nuggets remaining schedule too? At 33-28 they are just a game ahead of Memphis. |

Sure.
Nuggets
8 home games, 13 road games
Average opponent winning percentage: 0.494
Class of Opponents
3 very good (>= .650)
2 good (Between .649 and .550)
9 average (Betwen .549 and .450)
4 bad (Between .449 and .350)
3 very bad (< .350)
Memphis definitely has the better schedule. It's hard to rate if it is easier than the Lakers as they have more road games and fewer home games, but play easier opponents. _________________ <-- My avatar is Margaret Nolan from one of the Carry On films. I wasn't even thinking about Denver, but they're only 3 games ahead of Utah in their division race.
They could go from the #3 seed to missing the playoffs if they get careless.
Thanks for the excellent schedule breakdown Dennis_D. |

We're beating the Spurs Friday because they run and gun with Phoenix tonight! Come on Nash get them legs tired! |

One more thing, what does the Clippers schedule look like? I read in another thread we are only 3 1/2 games back of them. How about adding their schedule? Pretty please? |

Appreciate the effort - the added difficulty in catching Memphis is the fact that they hold the tiebreaker against us.
I would probably add the Clippers and Houston's schedules as well. |

We should consider also back-to-back games, because you can lose more easily those games even if the opponents are not elite on paper.
For instance : do you think it will be easy to beat the Celtics a day after a game at Cleveland ? |

You may as well throw in the Clippers schedule too. They are, by no means, a lock to hold the 5th spot.
Clippers
10 home games, 13 road games
Average opponent winning percentage: .530
Class of Opponents
5 very good (>= .650)
2 good (Between .649 and .550)
10 average (Betwen .549 and .450)
4 bad (Between .449 and .350)
2 very bad (< .350) |

If the Lakers can win 12 of their remaining 20 games, including the remaining ones against Sac and NO/OKC, they'll be assured either the 7 or 8 spot.
The Grizzlies are just too solid of a team to crumble, and their schedule is the easiest by far, so I think they'll pass the Clippers for the 5th seed. Thus for the Lakers to move up to the 6 spot, they will either need to go on an amazing winning streak to end the season, or the Clippers need to fall to pieces in a spectacular fashion. I wouldn't count on either happening.
The Rockets have a tough schedule too, but they're only 3 games back and Yao has been on such a tear that I feel they're right there in the mix as well.
I really think it's going to come down to the last game or two of the season to determine seeds 7-10. A nailbiter and, for a couple of teams, a heartbreaker. Let's hope the Lakers aren't one of them. |

One other thing I want to add about the schedule down the stretch is to look for the intangibles.
For instance, one of our remaining games against a high-quality opponent is our Apr 16th game against Phoenix which is the next to last game of the season. With an 8 game lead over the Clips, the Suns should have the Pacific Division locked up by then. By the same token, either the Spurs or Mavs should have the Western Confernce locked up by then as they have a 4.5 game lead over the Suns.
The Suns will be locked into the #2 seed and may want to rest their key players rather than risk injury before the playoffs in a game which has little meaning to them.
Some teams may be fighting tooth-and-nail down to the last game of the season jockeying for playoff position. Other teams may have little to gain by playing their key players heavy minutes. |

All is well... remember none of those other teams have a Kobe Bryant on their roster. The keys to these teams' final seedings are the intangibles, injuries, chemistry, handling the pressure, etc. |

Bump.
Mods,
Can we make this a sticky? It has too much good information to get bumped by the never-ending, "<Player not named Kobe> Sucks!" or "What color were Kobe's shoelaces?" threads.
