ALL PLAYERS are wasting away in Atlanta . Boris Diaw is a crazy player, Atlanta was just too stupid to not play him. He didn't get a chance. |

Yeah but Sky was pimping him as an initiator type, when all his success with the Suns has come because they have him playing at center. Still, it's too bad he got thrown in that Johnson deal. Atlanta was literally about to give him away for a couple draft picks. |
Mike D's system is different. If Diaw was a Laker, he'd be initiating. He still does some of those duties without Nash on the floor.
It works because Diaw has length and guard skills.
It's ironic in a sense. Classic basketball offenses using the pick and roll use the PG (best decision-maker) and center (Best guy to set screens).
What Phoenix does is outquick. Everytime. All the time.
So when Nash and Diaw do a pick and roll, Nash widens the passing lane. Instead of a slow center cutting to the hoop, Diaw has 1-2 steps on a rotating defense for a layup, the whole point of the pick and roll.
Diaw is also unselifsh and a great decision-maker himself. He knows that when he sees that rotating defense on the pick and roll, Jerome James, Shawn Marion, Raja Bell are all waiting for that corner three pointer.
I really like Mike D'Antoni's system... almost more so than the triangle. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

And in my opinion, if he was strictly an initiator he'd be struggling just as he did in Atlanta. But I'm not saying he wouldn't have been worth the couple 2nd rounders that Atlanta was willing to give him up for before the Johnson trade occurred. I was hoping that he'd become available. |

What else is new? I hate living in this town. The Hawks are good at one thing...getting rid of good players. Bill Russell, Boris Diaw, Steve Smith, Dikembe Mutombo,...the list goes on. Playing for the Hawks is a moment of truth for a player...either you are going up(traded to a better team) or out(of the NBA). _________________ Defense is my business, and business is good! |

Diaw is the closest thing to Pippen in the NBA today. LO for Diaw in a heartbeat. I love his game. Diaw would kick ass in the triangle, despite his somewhat shaky outside shot. And the D! That said, his assist numbers are slightly inflated because of the system Suns run. Diaw usually gets the ball while heading full speed for the hoop. All he has to do is: layup or pass? and then he is well positioned for the rebound. Whatever, he is a great player. But no reason he wouldn't find himself in somewhat similar situation in the triangle.
I remember the pimping of Diaw a year 1/2 ago. Everyone was like, "who?"

Caron Butler and Vlade Divac for Joe Johnson and an off-season deal |
I don't think the salaries work out. |
Yes they do
Vlade contract was worth 5.4mill(before buy-out)
Caron makes 2.5mill this year
for a total of arond 8 mill+125%=10mill |

To me Joe Johnson is closer to Pip than Diaw is.Jj is a better man to man defender, passer and scorer |

I disagree. He's not a classic PG, but he does have PG intangibles of decision-making. He can handle and he can pass. Makes him a great triangle fit. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Actually I brought him up before Sky, in the year he dropped out of the draft. Unfortunate, as all it would have taken was a first round commitment. As it turned out, Mitch had an excellent plan to move up in the draft in order to snag Tayshaun Prince... too bad he didn't execute. |

And why would they have done that?
There are a lot of moves that we "should have done."
As much as I hate Mitch Kupchak, you cannot criticize Mitch for something that you feel he should have done when you have no idea what was on the table, what the owner wanted, what the staff wanted, etc. |
