Wow.
I'm sure plenty don't have NBA League Pass or access to NBATV - but I
just finished watching Phoenix get DECIMATED.
Amare Stoudamire - 0 points.
Steve Nash - 0 points.
Yes, for the entire game.
Phoenix trailed 80-39 at the end of the 3rd-quarter.
They shot the lowest FG% in franchise history (26 of 97!).
Final score: New Jersey 110, Phoenix 72.
I realize this is, of course, just one of those total clunker games that
all teams have a couple of times in a given season.
But all signs point to a Suns-Lakers matchup in Round-1 for us.
We need to STUDY THIS GAME TAPE.
Because not all of the Suns' decimation tonight came just from a cold night.
Clearly New Jersey did SOMETHING very right. |

how did they get from 39 to 72 in one quarter? That in itself is pretty amazing |

Entire 4th-quarter was bench-on-bench.
D'Antoni pulled all starters to start the 4th. Threw in the towel having
been more than doubled-up at 80-39.
So the 33-point 4th quarter was backups on backups. |

5 assists for Nash this game - in 26 mins.
Not exactly horrid mind you, but considering he didn't score, and that
is below his average assist/min by a decent margin - that's rough. |

I saw the game, it was a humiliating PHX loss. They got nothing from Amare and Nash, who was controlled defensively all through out.
I give credit to NJ Nets for their spectacular game on both ends.
In this game, JKidd owned Nash. |

Smush 6-4 (6-2 really), age 25/Nash 6-3 (6-1 really), age 32
Kobe 6-6, age 27/Raja 6-5, age 29
Lamar 6-10, age 26/Marion 6-7, age 28
Kwame 6-11, age 24/Amare 6-10 (6-8 knees), age 23 (35 knees), (0-6, 2 Reb Mar 27, 2006)
Chris 7-0, age 26/Kurt Thomas 6-9, age 33
The playoffs ALWAYS slows things down-favors half court defense and offense over fast breaks-and the bigger team with fewer injuries usually wins series. Amare looked terrible against NJ and that will scare PHX not just about this season but about the future of the franchise. It will be in their heads.
They are OLDER and SMALLER at every position. They want us for a series?
I want them. Prediction: We win in six! |

Yeah, they are plenty scared about Amare's health. It was all over the radio this morning here in PHX. I didn't see the game, but on the radio they were saying that Amare is complaining that he doesn't feel right. They want the Suns to shut him down before he does any real damage to his knee. They seem to think maybe they brought him back too soon. I guess Jerry C talked Amare in to coming back when he did, and it may have been a bit premature. We'll see.
Yeah, that was my first thought, too! Hope the Lakers are studying this tape and taking notes! |
