LA Lakers 96 Phoenix 107

Last night the Lakers didn't appear ready to begin the game, and found themselves down by 18 early on. Tonight they managed to stay in the game through three periods. But that's when they didn't look ready, as they gave up a 18-4 run to begin the final quarter, and gave up any chance of winning.

There were two common themes in this game; a lack of consistent defensive effort, and too much reliance on Kobe Bryant's offense. Kind of sums up the season really. The 3rd quarter was the only one in which the Suns failed to score 20 or more, and the Lakers cut a 12-point lead down to 1. But the defense didn't stick. And while Kobe scored 51 points, only two other Lakers reached double figures.

Kobe got his 51 while hitting 19-33 shots, with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Lamar Odom scored 17, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished 5 assists, and had 2 steals. Smush Parker had 14 points with 3 rebounds and 4 assists. No other Laker more than 4 points.

As a team, they scored 96 on 45% shooting from the field and 72% from the line. But Phoenix hit 50% on their way to 107 points, and hit all of their suprisingly low 5 free throw attempts. I guess you don't need too many of those when you make half of your shots.
