Brutal!

I wonder what sparked that...were the bears just hungry? If so, why weren't they fed enough to begin with? Did the monkey do something to piss the bear off? Was the monkey a Kobe hater and the bear a Lakers fan?

I dont know why people were shocked, thats what animals do, they eat eachother. The bear just went bear on the monkey. Its like the National Geographic channel, happens all the time, just maybe not at the zoo

It is pretty rare, considering the Sloth Bear generally eats a diet consisting of various insects, vegetation, and the occasional bird or egg.

Yeah, but you don't get behind on your debts and then refuse to pay the vig to a Sloth Bear. That's just common sense.

A message had to be sent to the rest of the monkeys.

If you open the pdf file at the bottom of the article, there is a photograph of the money playing in the bear's drinking water. So at least the money was clean.

That's true. Just who do the Barbary Macaques think they are....especially those of European origin. They've been given this false cloak of invincibilty due to their 76 year protection under the British Army..and long-standing kindness of the citizens of Gibraltar.

To steal a peach from the hand of a 5 year old child of a Corsican tourist is nothing to a Barbary Macaque. To demand a burly yet starving armed soldier of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment to hand over the last of his chocolate con churro (which he'd been waiting for all day)....and receive it, due to the soldiers fear of being charged for mistreatment of the nations most beloved native....is a common occurrence.

The Barbary Macaque is an entitled bunch of conscienceless leeches. Their arrogance is something they took w/ them to the Netherlands.

Theres just a couple things... the Sloth Bear aint no 5 year old Corsican schoolgirl....nor is it as conditioned to being made a mockery of like those weak-ass ornamental jokers in the Royal Regiment.

Turning an out of line Barbary Macaque into an appetizer is one form of Sloth Justice.

Now they know. Now they all know.

Uh oh. Looks like the Sloths are turning on the heat...

The Associated Press

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Witness Marco Berelds, who had posted a detailed internet report on the Sloth bear and Barbary macaque incident, now recants his story.

A visibly shaken Berelds told reporters Wednesday that it was "all just a big misunderstanding."

When asked how it could be a mistake when Berelds himself had taken photographs of the incident, Berelds pleaded with reporters, "Please, leave me alone. They're watching. They're watching."

Berelds, who refused to answer more questions, slammed his front door on the group of reporters. Reached later by phone, Berelds again pleaded with reporters to "just drop the whole thing" and added "it's not worth pursuing."

Although, numerous theories have surfaced as to why Berelds has suddenly changed his story, one theory seems to be gaining steam. Word on the street is that the Sloths are using strong arm tactics to "chill the beef".

Neighbors said that a suspicious looking black Lincoln Continental had been parked outside of Berelds home last night. Several shelled eggs, dead termites and ants were found near where witnesses reported spotting the car.

Animals at the Beekse Bergen Safari Park refused comment for this story.
