I feel like management has screwed up too many times these past few years to really feel optimistic about 2014.

For the first time ever the Lakers watched an elite NBA center flee them rather than want to join them.

I don't know how anyone could feel good about that.

I feel a little bitter towards Dwight because he is a spineless coward but GREAT because this drama is over. We are due for a few years of mediocrity and I am cool with that. We'll be back.

I feel happy, the Lakers unloaded a drama queen who's contributed close to nothing to the Lakers organization. Howard is not worth our tears. I understand the resentment towards Shaq leaving, but Howard? give me a break.

The Lakers are the finest sports organization in America. We will have $30M in cap space plus Bird rights to Kobe and Pau in 2014. Next year will be tough, but I don't think the coach fits the Lakers anyway. We sign two max players, get Phil back as coach, and still have Kobe and Pau (neither as the number one option, so both are very good role players) and we win in 2014.

If Howard signs with the Lakers, we still don't win next year, and he will never be a number one option. We save his salary and the associate taxes, which helps build a war chest for 2014.

I will still be a huge Lakers fan, and will enjoy watching Dwight miss free throws in Houston.

Disappointed in management, and apprehensive about the future. It would be reassuring if the Lakers had a back up plan other than hope to sign a superstar next year. As shown by Dallas, a winning franchise with a good owner does not automatically result in solid free agent signings.

Great post! That is the spirit. Correction it will be like $50m in money to spend if they rescind Kobe and Pau

Well, we lost D12, got nothing for him in return and still have D'Antoni,

pretty bad right now

FO needs to seriously get their act together, never heard of anyone leaving LA willingly for a paycut

People liked to overlook his immaturity and diminished physical state for whatever reason.

The newfound flexibility is a breath of fresh air.

Losing Dwight in and of itself isn't so bad but losing Dwight AND GETTING NOTHING IN RETURN is the worst thing that could've happened to this team right now, short of Kobe re-aggravating his achilles.

Somewhat dis-engaged.

Still numb from Dwightmare 1.0, so while it'd be best if he stuck around, it's not the worst thing ever for me as a fan. Having been through the Pfund, Del Harris, and RudyT/Hamblen eras, it's part of following a team and I'll be there to support them even if they're lottery bound.

That Griffin/Bledsoe deal looks awfully good now.

What's the big hold up? "It's hard to walk away from $30 million," said a source close to Dwight Howard. "Harder than we thought."

Honestly, he was here for such a short time, and with free agency looming, he never really felt like a Laker to me. And apparently, he never felt like a Laker himself. He didn't seem happy to be here, I didn't particularly enjoy watching him play, and his 1 season here was the most disappointing I've ever seen, so I can honestly say I'm pretty indifferent to his departure.

In the back of my head I always knew there was a possibility that he would leave, it's not really too surprising to see him go after the way the season ended. I'm upset, but I never really thought he could be the star franchise player that he was in Orlando, of course him being here would have helped with free agents but c'est la vie.

We got NOTHING for Dwight Howard?!! This organization has gone down the toilet because of Buss.
Unbelievable! The front office and MDA costed us the next 5 years. We have entered the Era of Mediocrity until Kobe can successfully recruit some free agents.
