Regardless if he's amnestied or not, Metta World Peace (fka Ron Artest) deserves an appreciation thread. 2010 would not have been possible without you. Game 7 Hero!

Bump.

Quote:
Lakers Waive Metta World Peace Under Amnesty Provision

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles Lakers have waived forward Metta World Peace and have designated him as the team’s amnesty player as allowed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, it was announced by General Manager Mitch Kupchak.

“It’s tough to say goodbye to a player such as Metta, who has been a significant part of our team the past four seasons. For anyone who’s had the opportunity to get to know him, it’s impossible not to love him,” said Kupchak. “He has made many contributions to this organization, both in his community work as well as in our games; perhaps no more so than in his clutch play in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals in helping to lead us over the Celtics in one of the greatest playoff wins in Lakers history. We thank Metta for all his contributions and wish him the best of luck in the future.”

A 14-year NBA veteran, World Peace averaged 12.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in 75 games last season. Prior to joining the Lakers in 2009, he played with the Rockets, Kings, Pacers and Bulls, averaging 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals over the course of his career.

World Peace, then known as Ron Artest, was named to the 1999-00 All-Rookie Second Team. He was the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2004, and also was named to the NBA All-Star Team that season, as well as to the All-NBA Third Team. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in both 2004 and 2006, and to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2003 and 2009. For his off the court accomplishments, he was voted the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award winner in 2011.

Much love to Ron. I'll remember him fondly. He had his flaws, but one thing you could never, ever say about him was that he didn't compete. That was refreshing during a couple of years where there were a lot of guys on this team that you couldn't say that about.

They should create a new seat at the edge of the bench and let ron sit there as a fan all season. then re-sign him for vet min next year.

Even though it was the right decision, but still a hard one...

Metta is definitely a good person and helped us won a tough fought championship.

It's just too bad that he declined so much in last few years on both end....

its hard to dislike metta.
my emotionless analysis is that in 2010 he did everything for us. after that he was a liablity.

Good luck Metta, you will be missed. If you are ever in the Palos Verdes area I'd be happy to buy you and your family some In and Out double doubles. Laker for life.

Peace had his shortcomings but would run through a wall if it meant winning. There will always be a spot for you in the Laker Valhalla.

Would definitely miss his radio interviews. The guy is hilarious and down to earth.

I hope he retires, and joins the TWC as one of their experts/analysts. Those guys are way too boring. MWP will bring that show to life!

"Dear Metta,

Hope you realize how much Laker fans appreciate your contributions over the years. Way before you joined the team, many of us kept hoping you would one day don the P&G. And when you did you did not disappoint! That performance in game 7 against the Celtics will live forever in Laker lore. In the biggest of games, the team rode your back to a victory and a championship.

Thank you many times over for everything. You will be missed.

Queensbridge forever.

Peace."

SGH

P.S. People should check out the thread about Metta being the "Most Interesting Man in the NBA" after the Championship win over the Celtics. It's one of the all-time classics and reflects how much Laker fans appreciate Metta.

That sucks. He was one of the few that really had heart and played with a passion.
