The Eastern Conference Finals is the hot topic over here in South Florida and I wanted to get people's predictions. I'm looking forward to watching this series. The Heat overhauled their roster because they thought they needed more offensive firepower to defeat the Pistons. I think the Heat's biggest weakness is their perimeter defense. They're probably playing their best basketball of the season, and they're well rested and healthy. They haven't played in a week. Is that too much rest? I know many people on this board can't stand the Heat, but I truly don't like the Pistons. I still have nightmares of the 89 Finals (injured Scott and Magic) and the 04 Finals fresh in my mind. That being said, I'm picking the Pistons in 7 in a competitive series. For the Heat to win, they're going to need contributions from their role players, especially Antone Walker. Please chime in with your predictions on this series.

PS. I pick the Mavericks to win the WCF in 6.

This is the key right here. If you watch that last game against the Nets, Walker goes off. And now he's been sitting for a week. He's really only good for a couple games as it is. If they had gone into this series while Antoine was hot, then it might be a different story. As it is, the rest is good for the aches and pains, but it also gets you rusty. I think the Heat will probably need two games just to get back into the flow.

Pistons in seven (7) games.

Snaq with two (2) no-show type games in the series.

Gary Payton misses one (1) game because D-Wade bites his ear Mike Tyson
style after another huddle confrontation.

Piss-tons in 7. Walker sux. He got hot for a couple of games, but he is streaky. The Heat were actually better last year. Jason Williams chokes in the playoffs. The Big Baby will tire after playing every other day.

Shaq will look like Shaq in game 1, but he can't sustain the effort through consecutive games. It is during those "shaqless" games that Wade has to play big, because relying on Walker and Williams to carry your team is not a good idea. Also, let's see if they get any lucky breaks in this round (maybe McDyess will test dirty and get suspended, lol)

The Pistons have to increase their effort and play better defense than they did through the Cavs series. Seemed to me like their foot came off the gas pedal a couple times during those games.

My predictions:

- Shaq and Riley complain about the refs throughout the series.
- Payton gets into a pissing match with at least one teammate
- Wade has a big game and Shaq claims it's because he gave him a midnight pep talk
- JWill gets owned by Billups
- Sheed gets tossed from a game

Detroit in 7.

Heat in 6. Detroit is finally looking tired from their starters playing so many minutes all year long.

Pistons in 7.
I think that they will split the first 4 games with each team winning on the others home court with Detroit winning Games 5 and 7 at home to win the series.

In the WCF,
Mavs in 6.

Riles will need to think outside the box. Saunders will have to prove he's a playoff coach.

For Miami, Riles will start with Haslem on Sheed, but will have to counter once Sheed starts to go off from the outside. He'll experiment with a big lineup with Doleac or Zo at the PF to bother Sheed's shot.

Normally this would lead to problems for Miami with depth at the Center position, however the Pistons have no height at the 5 (B. Wallace/McDyess). Big Ben is stronger than nearly every 5 he plays against (w the exception being maybe Zo & Shaq) so matching up against Big Ben with Haslem or even Simien might work ok (not good, but ok).

I wouldn't be surprised to see any combination of big frontcourt lineups for Miami b/c this also puts Walker/Posey on Prince. Tayshaun usually uses his length advantage on opposing SF's but will have less of an advantage on Posey. Walker will need to body Prince and continually work him inside to try to wear him down. Tay Prince is not a physical player.

Hamilton will run miami's SG's ragged. Expect to see a lot of Payton and both S & D Anderson as Miami will try to keep Wade fresh but not playing him on Hamilton. Hamilton should have a huge series if he's aggressive.

Wade should attempt to make Billups work HARD by doing his slashing thing. If Wade keeps Billiups running, those big shots won't fall at the end of the game for Chauncey. Billiups should be posted up on Wade early to attempt to get him into early foul trouble. This is critical for Detroit b/c Wade IS Miami's offense when Shaq sits.

Overall should be an extremely physical series, which may indeed be decided by the zebras, rebounding, and turnovers. I expect Detroit to win in 6, but would not be surprised to see Miami in the finals if the Pistons are simply worn down by their attempt to win 70 games.
