I'm thinking about getting this.

http://www.amazon.com/Roku-XS-1080p-Streaming-Player/dp/B005CLPP84

I've read that I can connect to NBA.com and get my LP streamed through there. If this is indeed the case I might dump cable all together.

Does anyone have one? Any advice, opinions, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: ended up getting the 3 instead.

According to NBA.com, it seems like you can connect to league pass with Roku.
But without cable, you will be missing all the games from national TV channels and local games will be blacked out.

I hadn't thought of that, I'll still need TNT, ESPN, ABC, etc...- Thanks.

This review is quite down on the NBA League Pass.
Not surprisingly, there seem to be glitches.

Oh well, what can you expect from something run by David Stern.

My true motivation behind the Roku is to be able to stream the first 8 episodes of Walking Dead season 4 from Amazon. As I began reading more about it there seems to be a ton of content that would take the place of day to day TV viewing.

I'm going to go buy it and then I'll post a review later once I get it hooked up.

I hate cable so much I'd love to be able to get rid of it.

I like the idea too but I'm waiting for updated Apple TV.

Are you buying Roku 2 or 3?
I currently use WDTV Live but need to buy more of these devices.

I sprung for the Roku 3. My son will have fun with the Angry Birds and I like the Ethernet option. Just got it plugged in and gonna play around with it.

This thing is super fast and the 1080p is better than most of my HD cable channels. I was using my "smart" Blu-ray player for NetFlix and the picture quality was terrible. This is like night and day difference.

I highly recommend Roku. That plus the internet takes care of my TV needs; I canceled DirectTV. I use lakeshow gold (full game streaming for lakers), firstrowsports, netflix, hulu (rarely), and dl's for everything.

I have one. Video quality sucks for league pass, but it's easy to find the games you missed.

I got the Roku 3 at Costco - really like it! I've yet to find a streaming option for NBA games (other than NBA league pass)... has anyone had success?

This does not appear to stream live games....I'll fiddle with the settings.

Edit: Aaah, I see. Nevermind- Gotta set it up through NBA.com

Yeah, thought it would work like when I enabled HBO just by logging into my ATT Uverse account through Roku. Seems Uverse didn't supply me with the online credentials this year and ill have to call them. I don't ever stream LP online so I've never logged in.

A Roku is worth getting regardless. Awesome streaming system, and cheap as hell. Ive been thinking about upgrading to the three; is that headphone mode any good?

Roku 3 is pretty sweet. Besides the usual Netflix, Amazon streaming, etc., I really use the hell out of the Plex app. There are Plex plugins for things like South Park, Daily show, etc, plus all of the awesomeness you get from streaming your own library. This past season I also streamed MLB games through the official app. To get around local blackouts, I ran the Roku through my VPN, which was set out of market.

Definitely recommend the Roku, especially as cheap as it is.

I grabbed most of mine from https://github.com/plexinc-plugins. You have to download the zip (for example, daily show is https://github.com/plexinc-plugins/The-Daily-Show.bundle), make sure the plugin folder is named (whatever).bundle, not .bundle-master, and then drop it in the Windows folder. Make sure you disable capability checking. Here's a thread on it: https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/41508-how-do-i-install-plugins-manually/

It's really pretty simple and you get some sweet stuff! The South Park plugin, for example, plays all of the episodes on southparkstudios.com, without the commercials.

For streaming your own library, follow this media naming guide for awesomesness http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Media_Naming_and_Organization_Guide

Yeah, I set up the VPN on my computer, and let the Roku pass through the connection. For Dodgers games, I just turned my VPN on to something like Austin, TX, and viola, no more blackout. League pass should work the same way. You can also access NFL Gamepass the same way (just set your VPN to Germany or something). I use Vypyrvpn, but there are a ton of options.
