closes thing, is Raja Bell. he has good anticipation skills like bruce bowen, and is pretty strong for his size. he doesn't hack as much as bruce lee bowen, but he holds and grabs enough to become the next one.
the rest of the elite defenders are not hacks like bruce, so i dont want to compare them to bruce. Like Devin Harris is a VERY VERY good perimeter defender. once he realizes how to use his hands to get a few steals. its over. i dont know anyone that is as strong as artest and that size that can play de like he does. so no real comparisons there.
another guy that plays good de, well guys, Heinrich, Nocioni, and Ben Gordon. all very good defenders. Nocioni is more of an artest type because he's a bigger guy more like taller. but he likes to bump and grind while playing defense. most guys dont like all that contact, and will shy away from it.
Josh howard, but once again, he's not a hack like bruce bowen, so can't compare him. but he is a very very good defender overall somewhat like artest. but not as big or strong, but not weak either.
but like i said, I've only seen Raja bell getting Bruce Bowen type of favoritism calls in crucial games like the offs. so I give the "Next one" nod to Raja. Being a top defender in this league is a combination of very good defense, hacking, and No calls in your favor. |
