Mars is also visible right now, the big non-sparkling red looking "star" closest to the moon. Its not gonna get this close to the Earth again until the year 2267.

This is looking very cool. For a couple of minutes there, it was quite red.

Stayed up to view it. It looked more brown than red from where I was viewing.

With the Earth's shadow on it it was first time I was able to visually perceive the moon as a three dimensional object in space.

Copper-colored is one way to describe it. The sunlight that's just barely not blocked by the Earth -- which passes through the Earth's atmosphere on its way to the moon -- is scattered by the atmosphere. Just like in a sunset, the short-wavelength light (like blue) is scattered, and the longer wavelength light (like red) passes through more easily.

Yep. The northern part of the moon was closer to the center of the Earth's shadow and therefore darker than the moon's southern part. The differences in illumination brings out the moon's sphericity. This does not happen when the moon is fully illuminated.
