If explosives are found in those backpacks the owner will spend an eternity in custody.

What makes people copycat? If caught their punishment will be doubled to discourage others of the same mind.

Update on backpacks found near Boston Marathon finish line.
Quote:
MyFoxBoston.com reported that police found a rice cooker in one of the bags
That's what was used to make the bombs last year.

The second bag was actually just a backpack inadvertently left by a media crew:

Halstead wouldn't discuss the other backpack, saying it remained under investigation. But a representative of New England Cable News said the bag belonged to one of its news crews.

"The crew had put down their bag — which contained cables — while on the scene covering last night's developments," said Mike St. Peter, NECN general manager. "They were not permitted to retrieve the bag when the area was quickly evacuated. The NECN crew cooperated while asking officers several times if they could get their bag back. Because of the ongoing investigation, police denied access. Once the scene was cleared, the crew picked up the remains of the bag."

They blew that bad boy up too. No backpacks or bags are allowed at the Boston marathon start or finish line. I don't know why they only targeted the start and finish lines.

Most likely they were trying to make the most of the resources available. Covering the whole route effectively would be a monumental task. So the authorities likely focused on those two places because they are the most likely points of attack. There's a greater concentration of people and they are the focal points of the event. A bomber would most likely go for those high value targets.

Listening to CBS2 11:00 am news this morning. They reported two people arrested for supposedly having bombs in their backpacks. One at the post office on Vermont and 35th St. I use that office often. The other at LAX. Both men were arrested.

Copycats puzzle me. What causes a person to do something they know will get them arrested? I think it's the want of attention. Sensationalism should be quelled. If it is it would remove one of the reasons for copycatting.

It's my opinion if the media didn't give the crimes print and air time the perpetrator wouldn't get the satisfaction they crave by attention given, thus maybe, eliminating the reason some copycat.
