Banned for life, Silver will urge owners to vote for sale of Clippers, $2.5M fine against Sterling.

Forget about dropping the hammer - Silver nuked him.

Says he is fully convinced at least 22 of 29 owners will vote to remove Sterling's ownership.

Says there is no chance that the players will become free agents in 2014.

One thing's for sure. Silver is no Stern. At least for now. Now give us back CP3 for Nash. Then it's even.

MAJOR props to Silver for the way he handled this. If you listened to the whole press conference, he essentially said that he knows that he has the 75% vote needed to get Sterling out. My guess is he spent the last few days investigating and polling other owners for support. And he's going to get the support -- think about how bad an owner will look if they put this sale to a vote and they vote to let Sterling keep the team after all of this.

How about undoing the rigged CP3 trade too, then we'll talk about justice.

If Silver has his way it will be 21. The players assocation will put a stop to that, but most likely will become 20 in a few years.

That's an interesting way to conduct an "investigation..." by essentially pre-determining some of the outcome and working on the next phase of the process.

That being said, glad to see Sterling banned.

I'll be surprised if they actually get rid of sterling, can't see them voting to get rid of one of their own.

the fact board of governor didn't even poll on the force of sale tells me that's not gonna happen. too many owners have their own dirty laundries to worry about.

Well done Adam Silver, it feels good to see justice. And he dropped the hammer on this!

He must be very confident of getting the required amount of votes to force a sale.

If a current owner votes in favor of Sterling, then it means they condone racism and Donald's belief. That will be a PR nightmare. I don't think the owners will risk it. So yeah, I agree with Silver that he thinks he'll have the votes needed to oust Sterling.

Oh they'll vote him out alright unless the other owners want to risk alienating their own fans.

The question is, will Sterling go down without a fight? My bet is on Sterling (a lawyer himself) and his team of high priced lawyers will fight tooth and nail to keep this team.

Thats not the way I interpreted it. He said he is not planning to allow them all out, but earlier had said if a specific player strongly felt he didn't want to play there, they would look into options at that time, for that individual.

Yes but at the end of the interview he said it's not going to happen

He's gone. The sponsors for the Clips aren't coming back until he's gone and the bad press is there until he is evicted from the NBA owners island.

why would you bother with announcing lifetime ban and not immediately move to vote for removal if you had the votes

If I'm an octagenarian "single" owner, maybe it's best to steer clear of 20 year olds having hour long conversations about race or any controversial issues. Just keep it to um...physical actions I suppose.

I had know idea that this piece of (bleep) was a known racist. It makes me wonder why Stern vetoed the Lakers trade and gave Chris Paul to the Clippers.

He said he isn't going to do it automatically for all the players. I heard that question. But on an individual basis it is possible. I didn't get "no chance" from his comments.
