Kobe should follow in MJ's footsteps.

Create his own brand and buy a NBA team.

I'm actually looking forward to the post-Kobe Lakers. I love the guy but I believe a new era is necessary for us to be successful again. He's no spring chicken and we have no Shaq or Pau to pair him with to make us contenders anytime soon. Sorry if that sounds shallow but I want us to win again.

When Kobe's done, Lakers desperately need a player and/or coach who believes in and can anchor the franchise's winning culture, like Kobe after Shaq and the 3-peat team disbanded. Somebody who's up to the challenge of being mentioned among the greats like West, Baylor, Kareem, Magic, Shaq, Kobe, or Riley, Jackson. I can see lesser minds intimidated by the immense talent, opting to make a name for themselves on the many other teams that haven't won anything in decades, if at all.

Also-- I saw it during the 90s, and you see glimpses of it during the recent non-winning years-- it's EASY for famous, wealthy athletes to get distracted by LA lifestyle, at the expense of giving a damn on the court.

I'm personally worried about the post-Kobe years becoming non-competitive and uneventful... aside from off-the-court TMZ scoops. Despite what ESPN tries to tell everyone, you can't just "get" another Kobe, especially not personality-wise. It might be a really long, frustrating wait for #17.

Julius Randle. He has that mindset at 19.

We still have Kobe and that personality, and we're already so non-competitive and uneventful where we have no chance of doing anything that we're talking about tanking.

Kobe is holding the franchise hostage, where we can't rebuild until he retires.

Not his fault, they (management) allowed this to happen.

It's going to be so strange when Kobe hangs it up. I remember when we first drafted him I was so excited(I know we traded Valde). Everyone was wondering if this kid was going to make it or be a bust. I was so hopeful but at the same time thinking damn this kid is super skinny.

Kobe grew every year and became and awesome player, then a champion x 5. Its strange because Kobe came in the league fun and excited. I don't think he cared much about being compared to MJ; but in his later years seems obsessed to a point where he would ask himself "wwmj do before making a decision.

The 36-year-old said he's looking forward to finding something he's as passionate about as basketball.

I mean, I could see him owning a soccer team, quite frankly. If even just a minority share like Nash.

Really?

I thought he molded himself and totally copied MJ when he came into the league, where he was even hanging his tongue out a la MJ. There's a whole slew of other moves that Kobe did that were obviously copied from MJ.

He came into the league stating his favorite player was Magic, and hated MJ as a kid. But as the years went on he changed his tune and became a carbon copy of MJ

Looks like Kobe is planning for the future:

RUMOR: Kobe Bryant To Buy Italian Football Club AC Bologna?

As Kobe prepares for life after basketball, the Los Angeles Lakers star is apparently ready to invest in an Italian club, via Football Italia:

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport today, Bryant is preparing to invest in Serie B side Bologna.

The club is in advanced negotiations for a buy-out from American lawyer Joe Tacopina, who had previously been linked with Roma.

Isn't the definition of "post retirement" actual death?
