I am not going to rave about the guy or say it will matter much either way, but his numbers are very comparable to Nick Young's--also someone who will matter little in a ~30 win season. Neither played much defense.

Young: PER, 16.0; WS/48, .067, BBRef on/off +7.7

Brooks: PER, 16.5; WS/48, .072, BBRef on/off +9.2 (+12.1, Bos; +3.6, GSW)

Also, realizing the limited sample size for Brooks, still, he had the best net Production, on/off, and Simple Rating @ 82games of any Laker

Young @ $5.25M per v. Brooks @ ~$900K?

That's the point I'd make.

Lol comparing Young and Brooks.
Young, we know who is for years;
Brooks, you have stats on 10 games.
No seriously, you can't do that. If you think you can, just don't post.

Man, that's so insulting to Kobe, even with "poor man" in front of it. Young is pure pure ballhog, low low low basketball IQ, and not a serious player at all. As long as you have Nick Young, you'll never win.

This is who Nick Young is. As talented as he is, he makes teams worse with his play. He's just out there to have fun, not win. He's with the Lakers because he wants to rub elbows with the stars, not win.

Wizards from 07-08 to 10-11
Young does play......... 93-202 (.315)
Young doesn't play..... 18- 15 (.545)

Wizards/Clippers in 11-12
Young does play......... 22-40 (.355)
Young doesn't play..... 38-32 (.543)

76ers in 12-13
Young does play......... 23-36 (.390)
Young doesn't play..... 11-12 (.478)

Lakers in 13-14
Young does play......... 21-43 (.328)
Young doesn't play..... 6-12 (.333)

He is 159-321 (.331) in games he's played in his career. If you only count games in which he played at least 30 minutes, his teams' record drops to 43-111 (.279).

Every team he is on plays WORSE when he plays and BETTER when he doesn't, and when he plays more minutes they play even worse. That's what happens with a ballhog with low basketball IQ who plays no defense. Say what you want about Brooks, but he's not costing anybody a $22 million commitment to make them worse. And he passes the ball more than once a month and will put a marginally stronger effort on defense. (Though neither is good, Young is worse).

Nice analysis. Obviously this took some work.

Jim Buss is a disaster.... and giving Nick Young a hefty contract instead of giving a much cheaper contract to a better all around player in Marshon Brooks was idiotic.

Brooks would have become a solid starter if Mike D'Antoni had committed to playing the guy instead of giving chucker Nick Young the green light to score (thus giving Jim Buss a reason to spend money on Nick in the offseason).

Brooks is simply a better player than Nick Young.

I think marshon brooks and nick young are very similar in terms of overall value. Look at brooks in his rookie season, he had a season comparable to any of nick young's..... The biggest difference between brooks and young is that brooks still has time to improve his game, and with his diet Kobe game, he could've learned a lot by stickin with the team under a legit coach.

If you truly believe the bolded then you already lost me. Brooks was horrible, he likely is out of the league.
