The first two Hobbit films haven't met the standards of the LOTR trilogy IMO. Still, I'm looking forward to watching the last installment of this new trilogy.

I think that's kind of the thing (and no, I haven't read any of the Tolkien novels) ... The Hobbit was written as a far more child-friendly tale so, even though there are some of the same characters in both, it's almost apples and oranges.
A more knowledgeable Tolkien fan could better articulate my thoughts. _________________ We back.

The movie version of the Hobbit does reflect the more kid friendly theme of the book, which has been fine with me. However, judging by the trailer for the Battle of the Five Armies, Peter Jackson is going to be bridging the gap between the two series. _________________ Not a legend

I think the main thing is the fact that the Hobbit book is shorter than any single Lord of the Rings trilogy novels yet was turned into a trilogy itself.
A 30-45 minute run through the troll-thing caves? Um, okay, real fun. Yay, another turn on the rails. Yay! Gave me the same feeling I go watching the final battle in Superman. Building #7395 get's knocked over. Yay! Blooming romance between Evangeline Lily and the Dwarf? Can we get a cringe emote up in this joint?
Legolas, doing Legolas things was the most awesome part thus far imo.

This was the only real thing that just to me seemed really not well done.
It seems so forced.
I liked the second Hobbit movie a lot (the first one was good too but not quite on the level of the Trilogy movies, the second one was closer to that level), but that forced elf/dwarf romance / political statement was just awful. _________________ Kobe

Part 3 should be nuts though.
That's probably the biggest issue with the first two Hobbit movies. They really made an attempt to parallel the LOTR trilogy, but there simply isn't enough material to do so. As such, the first two movies have long run times with not much actually happening in those movies. I'm sure the 3rd Hobbit movie will be the best, but I don't think the book should've been stretched into a trilogy of movies. I think two would've sufficed although I'm sure the movie makers are laughing all the way to the bank.
