Agree with everyone else

Coop, Kaj or GP should be the only considerations.

Coop or Mad Dog need to be on staff. Or both Bernie Bick also.

Not sure about GP (personality clash), I think Horry would be a better choice. I think he would work well with Scott.

Also, Wasn't Dave Miller Byron's assistant in NO?

Then you don't agree with everyone else.

You're missing Mad Dog Madsen and Horry....plus all aren't sold on GP as an asst. coach.

I wonder if he's being considered for a spot then. He seems like a good strategy guy.

What I like about Horry is that he's not afraid to tell it how it is, to anyone, especially Kobe. He can play bad cop while another asst can be good cop.

Horry worked with both Phil and Pop. He won 7 rings in 3 different teams. Also i think he can really help young bigs like randle, davis and kelly.

Cooper is the baddest of bad cops.

Cooper is like Kobe.

Horry isn't that much of a bad cop. He's just not the good cop. He's more like regular cop.

Lakers contemplated Madsen being our HC now but felt he needed more time/experience first. We better hold onto him....a great future coach option!

Dr. Buss wanted Byron Scott to take over according to Magic.

I don't get the hype for GP ahead of guys like Pressey and Madsen.

Pressey was one of the great defensive players and has been an assistant for 15+ years.

Madsen is an assistant who was put in charge of player development, a big deal with all the youngsters we have.

I don't think GP has ever coached anywhere before? He might be good to add on AFTER more experienced guys, but I want a qualified, experienced coaching staff on-board first.

It's because of his reputation as a defender. People here automatically assume that because he was great defensively, somehow he'll be able to turn all of the perimeter players into absolute lock-down defenders.

Not me. I've watched GP analysis on NBA TV, Fox Sports, etc. He has a very intelligent bball mind. Most importantly he understands that the game has changed for today's rules and he understands how to exploit it.

I think he'd be a great mentor for Clarkson and instill some pride and fight into this team.

I'd like to see Byron add an elder statesmen to the staff in the mold of a Bernir Bickerstaff too. I don't knwo who is close to him that fits that profile though.

If he had a staff of

Madsen
GP
Horry
Lewis
Outlaw
+ Bickerstaff type

I'd be happy

Coaching in general, I'd think Madsen has a great resume. iirc, he played 4 years of college ball, has coached in Minny... intellegent, eloquent & amiable.

And for a morale boost all he has to do is...dance

Horry can replace AMMO as our good luck charm. He seems to bring good luck to teams.

Having a coaching staff of Scott, Cooper, and Horry would be legendary.

These are all guys that became champions more based on mindset, intensity, and hard work instead of through amazing athleticism or natural talent.

It's tough when players who are just gifted beyond others try to coach because there are things that they did that just cannot be taught. But with guys like these, they can teach what made them successful.

I would love for Horry & Payton to join this coaching staff, the younger players even though not signed for long time would learn the fundlementals of the game & how to play as a team. Both of these guys had stellar careers, but something tells me both wouldn't do it?

Big shot Bob was a clutch all around player...

Me too.
Well, maybe player coaches.

We still need Asst coaches who know how to asst coach.

Does not seem to be a lot of conversation about Pressey. He was initially listed as one of the possibilities.

He may be an interesting choice. He played a playmaking or "point" forward style. Randle showed some decent skills in those areas. Very nice mentor if that is how the Lakers see Randle.

Also has anyone heard if Bickerstaff will remain as an asst in Cleveland??

Hope they can get the coaching staff in place soon. It would be nice to get some preparation for the season in before training camp begins.

Would be nice to round off the staff with someone like Bickerstaff or Lawrence Frank. Horry might be a nice one to help instill a championship mentality.

You really fore see a 67yr old, diagnosed with leukemia, KAJ coaching? Mentor, yes, coaching, I don't think so.
