I'll post invites here and eager to see what you all think of them.

Keith Appling has been invited to the Lakers Training camp. Former Michigan PG. Magic will be cheering for him obviously. Looks like an interesting player to me.

Keith Appling is staying on the West Coast in his NBA pursuit. But his second chance to make a roster will be with a new club.

The former Michigan State point guard and Detroit native has accepted a training camp invitation with the Los Angeles Lakers, his agent, Mike Silverman, confirmed Monday night. Other teams were also in pursuit of his services, Silverman said.

Soon after going unpicked in the June NBA draft, Appling signed a free agent contract with the Portland Trailblazers. He played in two of Portland’s five Las Vegas Summer League games, scoring a total of five points in 17 minutes.

Roscoe Smith accepts Lakers training camp invite

The Los Angeles Lakers have inked Roscoe Smith, one of their own Summer League players, bringing him in on a training camp invite, according to Sportsnet New York.

Former UNLV/UConn F Roscoe Smith has accepted an invite to Lakers’ camp, source tells @SNYtv

- Adam Zagoria

Smith played in all five of the Lakers summer league games, averaging 5.0 points per game in just 12.8 minutes of action each night. The 6’8″ forward went undrafted, but latched on with the Lakers during the summer.

While he likely won’t get a shot at the Lakers NBA roster, he is a big body to bang around during camp against newcomer Julius Randle and veterans like Jordan Hill, Carlos Boozer, and Ed Davis. He also could be kept on the Lakers D-League affiliate, giving him a chance to further progress his skills.

In college, Smith was a double-double machine, averaging 11.1 points and 10.9 rebounds, He had multiple 20-rebound games and only had 12 games where he DIDN’T reach double figures in rebounds. His 16 double-doubles are what made him an intriguing prospect, and he could mature into something given time to develop in the D-League.

Probably. But I remember him playing well against IU. Not sure how his game will translate to the next level, but I suppose he could be a surprise.

I do not see him making the squad. But they need camp bodies and D-league players too.

If the Lakers decide to add another PG to the mix I would prefer Beaubois from the Summer League.

Solid defender and at least some proven NBA minutes. Biggest issue would be his health. The all important "can he stay healthy?" Another young player with potential and something to prove.

I've had my eye on this guy and was hoping the Lakers would draft him. I'd say he's Bledsoe, but with a more consistent jumper

Let's not get carried away. I think more Darren Collison with a better jump shot. He's a small dude and not an athletic/physical specimen like Bledsoe.

Updated with Roscoe Smith accepting an invite. I knew a Roscoe Smith once but he is an accountant. I hope it's not him.

I'll post the new invites in the 1st post.

Now if a player was named Roscoe Appling...that's a great name for a restaurant.

Has any camp invite in recent history made it to the Lakers?

Does not seem there's much reason to get excited.

Manny Harris would fit that role better.

But he already had a history in Memphis and NO (albeit episodic). So it was more like a free-agent signing. Although, of course, camp invites tend to be free agents anyway.
