Byron Scott's chances of winning COY at 125/1
Quote: | According to Sportsbook.com, Scott’s odds to win his second Coach of the Year award aren’t that favorable at 125/1. Scott is near the bottom of the list of candidates for the regular season award along with David Joerger (125/1), Brad Stevens (200/1), and Flip Saunders (200/1). |

Well, the team needs to be one of the best in the league in order for the coach to be considered. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Not really. Most of the winners have come off of top 5-6 teams in recent years. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

It would be improbable but not impossible.
If Scott can coach the predicted lowly Lakers to a 20-22 game improvement and the 8th seed- wouldn't he deserve it?
Also would expect Kobe to be Best comeback player with MVP considerations. Young to be Sixth Man. And Randle to be a ROY candidate.
Not impossible, just not likely. Lets hope they prove everyone wrong! |

As training camp approaches I am excited about the prospects of Coach Scott "righting the ship" and pointing us back in the right direction.
I like the fact that he is putting a great deal of emphasis on defensive energy and effort
Coach Scott is firm & somewhat old-school. This is a good thing when it comes to younger players who don't really understand the NBA game and the effort that it takes to survive.
He preaches discipline ala Kobe Bryant. He also gets players to identify their own strengths & weaknesses and then helps them to improve their game.
He teaches his guys how to maximize their talents and gives them the freedom to do so.
The players that buy in to his toughness will thrive. Those that don't won't get much playing time. |

Well put. I feel exactly the same way....totally behind Byron as our coach, and I haven't felt that way about a Laker coach since Phil. |

If it was really based on a coach helping a team achieve their potential and beyond that then Jeff Hornacek would have gotten it for taking an abysmal Suns team and getting them a millimeter from the playoffs _________________ "We are the goodest." - Shaq ESPN interview |

Nice article (Coach Scott):
Quote: | Scott credits Riley and Brown as essentially sparking his interest in becoming a coach when his playing career ended.
After mentioning a conversation with the two prolific coaches when he was still a player, Scott says, “I’ve got two of the best coaches ever to coach this game. |

Great interview and what I like about Scott is that he's a straight forward guy, no messing around. If players don't perform he's going to get on their case, they are going to have to look in the mirror and be responsible by being professionals. Like in the old days those that don't play defense and don't give 110% will ride the pine. This generation doesn't understand this kind of thinking and want instant gratification so it's important that the Lakers FO back Scott up when he makes tough choices. Unlike teams like Cleveland who's FO has no idea on how to build a team and give the proper support. Laker fans will have to have some patience but I think we will see an immediate change in the culture and identity of this team and that means a lot. Knowing that the coach will give out his heart for the name in the front of the Jersey means a lot. Those other guys they didn't care in fact I'm sure MDA never imagined he'd coach the Lakers a team that he despised for so many years. Lakers tried to create the identity of a different team (ie. Suns) which never succeeded instead of looking at what they've always been. Now I think they're on the right track. |

Listening to Scott, I have a high level of confidence he will actually follow through with his statements. He will emphasize defense. He will hold the players accountable. I think the Lakers will benefit and be better because of it.
That was the most frustrating part of MDA. He didn't follow through with his comments. When he was first hired there was the impression that a defensive asst coach was coming with him (McMillan). Last year they all said the right things about Rambis being asked to emphasize defense. Never saw any of it in games.
With Scott I think we will. |
