IIRC, a slump during the 2nd half of the season due to his father's death.

He was a point guard who couldn't pass (3.4 apg, 2.7 TO's). He's big enough to play SG, but shot poorly from the outside (28.1% on 3's). He had the tools to be a good defender, but wasn't. He was projected to be a combo guard that couldn't do either role very well.

In the summer league, his outside shooting (42.1% on 3's) was MUCH better than expected. He was expected to be good at getting to the rim, but in the summer league he was better at it then was expected. The combination made him a pick-your-poison player.

The next Nick Van Exel?
Quote:
There are some similarities between Clarkson and Nick Van Exel.
Both players are natural scorers.
Both players came out of college as developing point guards.
Both players are streaky shooters from the perimeter.
Both players are highly emotional on the court.

He'll have to add like 20lbs of muscle in his calves to get to Westbrook status.

Do they sell that muscle in supermarkets?

Wow, that's terrible news and totally understandable. But at least that's behind him and only path is upwards now.

Does this kid ever stop working? It seems he hasn't taken a breath all summer.

The one thing is that I see JC solely working on his offensive game. If he's slated to be one of our backup PGs, then I hope he's working on his passing skills as well.

His release point looks a little low, but other than that, very nice. He looked great in summer league too. Can't wait for the preseason.

His release point is rather low, hopefully he will work on improving in that area too. But I like his fundamentals and work ethic.

That video was back before his last year of college. That's why the Midnight Madness dunk contest was brought up at the end as one of the dunks he was gonna do.

His shot is fixed by now, but it is nice to see the video finally released to the public, nice to see that athleticism and ability, glad he fixed his shot too.

And we have hit two in a row. Regarding Clarkson, watching Access Lakers, it seems that Kobe and Nash are also impressed with him.

This is the key for teams like the Lakers who don't get consecutive years of top lottery picks - at some point, we have to get lucky with our late 1st round or 2nd round picks.

Getting a guy who turn into Ginobili, Carlos Boozer, Monta Ellis, Tayshaun Prince, etc - we're long overdue.

Was the problem more about Phil's philosophy trying to get "smart" players or triangle type players who could contribute right away versus athletic players with higher potential who might take some developing? Of course, Phil didn't want to develop rookies.

Phil wanted guys like Cook and Luke. Of course the Lakers were drafting very late in the draft, but I'm sure there must have been some good later round players that the Lakers passed on.

I saw that, that really gives me high hopes on this kid. If Kobe is impressed with you and so is Nash, you got some serious skills.

What?

We literally had Jordan Farmar last year, who fits that description to a T, and was our backup PG during the 08-10 Finals runs.

Jordan farmar is much shorter and farmar has only one gear and no change of direction with his athleticism.
