I wanted to start a separate thread here to discuss our sports leagues in general and the way they should handle off-field (or court) incidences of domestic violence whether that be against a woman or a child.
In my opinion, they should just allow the courts to handle these cases. If the crime is considered bad enough to warrant jail time, then, the player will be jailed appropriately. If not, then obviously the courts do not consider them a threat to society and thus, they should be allowed to play.
It just doesn't make sense to me, to have sports leagues levying punishments because it puts them in a position they can't win. Put the onus on our criminal justice system to handle crime. That's what they're there for.
I understand WHY they would want to levy additional punishment, but again, doing so will put them in a position they can't win.
Why is Greg Hardy playing? He was found guilty of domestic violence while Ray Rice was not and his charges, as far as I know, were dismissed as part of a plea deal. |
