Good to see CJ actually pitch deep into a game and not suck. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
If Texas beats Oakland tomorrow afternoon (or rallies in the 9th tonight for that matter), the Angels will clinch the division before their game starts tomorrow. If that happens, I say they bench all the regulars and throw the AAA squad against Felix Hernandez. _________________ ...in my opinion. |

Can't tell if this is sarcasm. They lost a game against one of the best pitchers in baseball, without one of their rotation pitchers pitching, and while playing all of their backup position players. That's what you call a punt. Frankly, I was surprised and impressed that LeBlanc did as well as he did and that the C-squad stuck in there. _________________ Jeffs

This game exemplifies why I don't fear the Mariners much in a playoff series. Their offense is so bad that we can be competitive even when the pitching matchup is strongly in their favor.
I would be singing a different tune if we had to face them in a Wild Card game, but now that the division is wrapped up, that concern went out the window. _________________ ...in my opinion. |

^ Yeah, they sat Weaver so that he would be on schedule to start game 1 of the ALDS. Since they were going to go with a rocky starter against an elite one in Felix Hernandez, they decided to just give all of their starters the night off as well.
I'm sure they'll be back to trying to win every game tomorrow. While clinching the division is big, clinching the #1 record is also very important. Absolutely DO NOT want to face Detroit in the first round, who are the smart money bet to win the central. _________________ Jeffs

Amazing that the Angels have won 8 division championships (including 5 with Scoscia) and have never made the World Series after winning the division. The 2002 team won the wild card. I see the playoffs as a huge crapshoot though. The Dodgers have won several division titles since 1995 and haven't made it to the World Series either in those years. And I've seen Atlanta, the NY Yankees, and Oakland come up short a lot after having terrific years.
It's also funny how the offense catches fire when Hamilton sits out. I never seem to miss him when he is out of the lineup. The thought of seeing him in the playoffs doesn't appeal to me.
This Angels team has more similarities to the 2002 team than any other Angels team I've ever seen. |

Up to 96 wins - we need to beat Texas today and then go .500 on the road trip which won't be easy with both Oakland and Seattle needing these wins.
Baltimore gets NY 4 times this week in Jeter's final home games and then Toronto for 3. |

Can't afford outings like this from CJ, especially with our rotation already depleted. Really hope Shoemaker is back 100% for the playoffs.
Lucky break for the Angels that the O's have dropped their last two and haven't capitalized on our recent slide. Still, we have some tough games remaining against teams that we could very well play in the playoffs, so the Angels need to get it together. The offense needs to step it up to help the struggling pitching staff. _________________ Jeffs
