http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/09/19/349842310/irans-happy-dancers-receive-suspended-sentences

Quote:

Six young Iranians arrested in May on obscenity charges for starring in their own video version of Pharrell Williams' hit song "Happy" have been sentenced to 91 lashes and up to a year in jail,

Quote:
"While completely innocuous by Western standards, the video includes three men dancing with three women. The women are wearing pants instead of a loose-fitting robe and do not have the mandatory veil to cover their hair."

Tehran's police chief accused the group of making an obscene video that offended public morals.

I saw a movie with Kevin Bacon in it. It was about a town that outlawed music and dance. I didn't watch long enough to see if they were flogged for it.

If it wasn't for oil, alot of these middle eastern countries would be so far behind. Not only oppress creativity and freedom, waste half a countries resource by not allowing women to do anything

What I really want to see is these young girls who fled there normal lives to fight for ISIS and Islam.

The Ayatollahs will never give up their power...this is why the ordinary people are defenseless and get beaten by the secret police if they want more freedoms.

Do you seriously think regular peeps in Iran would be jerks to you or your wife? You're very mistaken. Incredibly warm and down to Earth people unless you're a rude douchebag.

I doubt that. I don't think I've met a single cool persian guy or girl here, and I've lived here for 20+ years. All of them are self centered, nosy and egotistical. My least favorite people in the world.

We get all these mean stares and looks when we're in westwood once in awhile.

But maybe they are different in the mother land. Who knows.

Well I agree. Most of these LA knuckleheads are big time posing fake tough guy shahs of sunset self centered idiots. That's a pretty damn small majority though. Totally different from Iranian folks born in and from Iran who are overwhelmingly warm hearted and humble.

This is what happens when you don't separate church and state. There's nothing in the bible that condemns dancing, but that doesn't mean a bunch of extreme, religious fanatics wouldn't misinterpret bible and pass laws that ban it anyway. I hope you ultra Conservatives are listening. This article is an extreme example of what happens when people elect politicians who try to legislate morality. Right wing Christians, please just stop it. You're doing more harm than good. Witness to people through love and compassion, not by voting religious bullies into office.
