While we wait for the Lakers to tip off 2014/15, take a minute to play a game. We did this one with the grand kids while shuttling them to the beach and back.
Go back to an old (Laker, or other) club of that you admired from the past and imagine how you would swap out one starter - and replace him with another guy from the same franchise - to make the team better. Try to do it without wholly re-engineering how that team would have to play.
Example: 1972 Lakers
Original lineup: Wilt, Hap Hairston, Jim McMillian, Goodrich, West
Yeah, that was a great team all by itself, but I'd like to swap out Jim McMillian. Jim was a good-not-great small forward who was a good all-rounder. He could drive the ball, hit the mid-range, rebound, defend his slot and defer to others easily. I'd replace him with better version of that profile, with Rick Fox. The change would upgrade the position with better at-distance shooting, improved positional size, some added attitude, real play-making ability, and all coming without giving up much speed and mobility. Of course, there was no three point shot, so Fox' three point shooting ability might not have great payoff.
What team (Laker or otherwise, from any year) would you pick to upgrade ? Who would you swap in - and out ?
