It's not Secret Wars... it's Civil War

http://badassdigest.com/2014/10/13/robert-downey-jr-bringing-civil-war-to-captain-america-3/

Quote:
Iron Man bringing CIVIL WAR to Captain America 3

Robert Downey Jr hasn't been negotiating with Marvel for Iron Man 4 - he's been negotiating for Captain America 3. Yes, Iron Man will be co-starring in Cap 3, which is either going to be called Civil War or Fallen Son - I've heard both names getting tossed around.

And this isn't some small bit. This isn't a cameo. Downey will be shooting 30 or 40 days on the film. He's basically co-starring.

When Marvel heard that DC moved Batman v Superman originally slated on the same date as Cap 3, they wondered if DC had heard the story and knew that Batman versus Superman wasn't going to match up to Captain America versus Iron Man.

I'm not clear on how the Civil War story will play out, since the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't have secret IDs to reveal, but I can tell you this: the fallout of Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be huge in this movie. There is a lot of destruction in that film. It makes an impact.

Civil War was one of the biggest and most successful comic book events launched earlier in 2006. Like the comic book storyline, the new pact will be significant for the Marvel cinematic universe considering the plot will pit Stark against Captain America’s alter-ego Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities.

Stark supports the program, but Rogers does not, saying it threatens civil liberties, causing sides to be taken and Rogers, among others, to go on the run to avoid arrest. The moral question and battle with his Avengers teammate essentially makes Stark a villain of sorts in “Captain America 3,” providing Downey with a meaty role he could play out into future Marvel films, including a fourth “Avengers.”

The fallout from the government and Stark’s actions would factor into a new “Avengers 4″ film and beyond that will assemble new characters being introduced like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, among others, in their own movies.

Marvel on Monday announced plans to reboot the Civil War comicbook miniseries in 2015, which will help introduce the story to new readers leading up to “Captain America 3.” The first crossover of Marvel’s biggest characters, including Spider-Man, was published in 2006.

That's been hinted at for the past year or so with Evans not wanting to sign on for more films and Marvel having Bucky signed on for I think 4 more. It's pretty much widely accepted that he will replace Cap but only time will tell.

Funny thing is I first heard/learned about this storyline from the Marvel's Ultimate Alliance video games. The 2nd one covers Civil War.

Civil was is a great story arc.
But one of the best marvel story arc is world war hulk. Hulk vs earth super heroes was nothing short of epic. The main art was excellent too.
Maybe Avengers 3 if rumors are right.

Still waiting on the trailer. Don't get me wrong, I am excited but it's gonna be hard to top the first one. So far, Cap 2 was the only sequel better than the original(ironman 2, thor 2 both sucked compared to the first one). That's part of why I'm so excited for Cap 3, seems like that the character that they have the best stories for and Evans has really grown into that role.

I haven't seen Captain America 2, but I did love part 1. And you're saying the sequel was even better? What the heck am I waiting for?

May or may not. CA1 was a nostalgic tip of the cap to WWII-era films. CA2 tries to be more modern Jason Bourne. I loved both but I liked the first's style more.

There could still be a World War Hulk.

Planet Hulk was happening around the same timeline as Civil War was going on.

Yeah ... but too bad he couldn't do the same for Iron Man 2 or 3.

Eh?

CA: Winter Soldier was the 3rd biggest Marvel box office film with $715 million.

WS also the 3rd highest rated Marvel film among critics on RT @ 89% just behind Avengers and Guardians/Galaxy.

Cap 3 was already being projected to go $900 million, but with RDJ now, this basically guarantees Cap 3 will open to more than a billion dollars. That would make the Cap franchise worth over $2.1 billion for just 3 films.

He did well in them despite not being the best plots. I really enjoy Iron Man 3 because we get so much Tony Stark as opposed to Iron Man. I didn't like it the first time but the more I watched it, the more I realized it allowed RDJ to really shine. He carried that movie on his back for sure.

I think he means that after it broke the bad sequel trend(Iron Man 2, Thor 2) with WS being so good, he's gonna make sure it doesn't have a crappy sequel to WS. It would be the only franchise or sub-franchise(?) for Marvel that possibly gets better with each sequel.

Oh I agree that RD Jr carried it completely but it simply was not the giant leap it needed to be to wash the bad taste of IM2 off the palette.

Super Pepper Powers? Gag.

Wasn't Stark the one who was vehemently against Government interference in the Iron Man movies?

Also, isn't this basically the same premise as the Mutant Registration Act from X-Men 3?
