Or if they're being real jerks: 1) see if he can be healthy this season; 2) have another team offer him a deal at 4 years, and with 4.5% raises rather than 5 years/7.5% raises. Klay's getting his max. It's just a question of when and under what circumstances. |
I think that Jerry West has some influence on strategy - Big Picture types of things, but no idea how much that extends into Salary Cap management.
When they (Golden State) visibly balked at including Klay in a trade for KLove this past Summer, it showed that they have a special affinity for him. |

Quote: | Celtics Likely To Waive Will Bynum
By Gary Washburn | Globe Staff October 18, 2014
Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and guard Will Bynum are expected to meet on Saturday, according to two NBA sources, and the team is likely to waive Bynum, who was acquired Friday from the Detroit Pistons.
Bynum, 31, is in Boston and will take his physical before he and his representatives meet with Ainge. NBA sources said the Celtics are content with their point guard lineup of Rajon Rondo, Marcus Smart, and Phil Pressey, leaving Bynum out of the equation.
Boston traded Joel Anthony’s expiring $3.8 million deal for Bynum’s $2.9 million deal. The $900,000 difference pushes the Celtics approximately $2.2 million below the luxury tax line, and the organization has no intention of exceeding that line with a rebuilding team.
There was speculation that the Celtics acquired Bynum to replace Pressey, who will earn $815,000 this season, but sources say Bynum was acquired to help the Celtics avoid the luxury tax, and they were also able to find a taker for Anthony, who had little role on the team.
With Anthony gone, the Celtics are expected to keep Vitor Faverani, who is out another two months following a second knee procedure, and make him the third center behind Kelly Olynyk and Tyler Zeller.
The Celtics still have 16 guaranteed contracts, including that of rookie Dwight Powell, and just 15 roster spots. So Ainge will have to waive a player with a guaranteed deal or make a trade to reduce before the season opener Oct. 29 against the Brooklyn Nets.
After Saturday’s meeting, that move is expected to be Bynum, who will garner interest on the free agent market once he is placed on waivers.

I think he's better than Ronnie Price. With Steve having a little bit of trouble with injuries, should the Lakers go after him again since they were interested in signing him last summer when he was a free agent? |

We'd have to make sure we're REALLY bad next year so that the Top 5 protection kicks in.
Unless Kobe ends up sitting out again I don't see us being THAT bad.
Especially if we add Lowry or Stephenson with Randle. No chance. |
That team is probably a 35-40 win team. We'd have to get incredibly lucky to be top 5. |
