So how is the Laker defense looking now?
I think they are looking much better than the first three games.
But is the Laker defense anything to be proud of yet?
Kobe was talking pretty highly about it.
I know they still need a rim protector with the starting unit. |

Pre-season. We're seeing such disparities in lineups IMO out there. Like GSW trotting out their world class 1st unit against our depleted 2nd and 3rd units.
Yesterday we trot out our first unit while PHX sits Bledsoe/Dragic, or Utah who sits out Hayward/Favors in the 2nd half.
Too hard to tell but I do see guys working harder, which is always a plus. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Defense will always be better when you're not pushing the ball all the time to get a 3. Byron's insistence on the half-court will give them a better chance in setting a defense.
And it will be better when Boozer sits. I still like for them to experiment with Davis/Hill/Kobe/Wes/Lin to set the defensive tone, then ease in the offense with Boozer or Randle for Hill. When Davis needs rest, Hill goes back out. |

The idea that they need to turn people over at times rather then wait to make guys miss shots is a great idea for this group of guys. Depending on your roster you can play the hands up solid d game and win at it. Some dont have that luxury. Some people have to turn you over. It's not just so called bad rosters or bad teams. It's teams that dont have true bigs patrolling the paint. The heat had to trap you, press you and make you turn it over, So did OKC(even though they had ibaka, ibaka is still smaller then say a little bro gasol). The old jordan bulls used traps and presses over hands up defense. While the Celtics that beat the lakers recently used more grabbing, holding and hands up defense over trying to trap you out and make you turn it over. It all depends on your personnel. |

Quote: | Ronnie scratched, clawed, and kicked his way onto the Laker roster. Of the Laker guards, he’s easily the most physical player. He has drawn charges, blocked shots, cut into passing lanes, and absolutely frustrated opposing point guards. |
Ronnie Price sets the tone throughout the game for the Lakers defense and Ed Davis is becoming a legit rim protector.

I agree they look much better. There were some nice secondary and beyond rotations the past two games. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

When other teams have used their starters, the defense has looked bad. When other teams throw their second and third stringers out there for extended minutes, the defense has looked much better. It'd be easier to rate their progress if teams would start using their starters a little more. The Kings will probably rest most of theirs but they're not good anyway. |
