I just thought I would throw around the idea that the Lakers could take from the Celtics formula that netted them a championship in 08 and back to back finals appearances.

I firmly believe, that with the right group of guys, veterans, championship experience, outside shooting, and athleticism, the Lakers could assemble a roster that is similar to 08 Celtics... or even the 04 Lakers.. with Malone and Payton.

Taking a close look at that 04 Laker team, Malone who in his last year averaged 13 and 9... not far off from what Garnett is averaging now in a limited role with the Nets.

Since the Lakers have an infatuation with Rondo... I can see this team coming together, one that has a variety of different championship experience.

Granted, Pierce and Garnett are a shell of themselves from their 08 form... but neither has been plagued with injuries... and their play is contingent upon their effort/motivation... could be a revitalized environment here in LA.

Its just a thought... cant see the Lakers building with Rondo if they dont atleast include some of the supporting case that made him so effective during his tenure in Boston.

I know what you're saying.. but how old were Shaq/Malone/Payton when we assembled that line up.

I apologize... I meant to indicate "retool" not "rebuild" in my OP.

I don't see it man. Theses guys are from the past, it's time the Lakers look ahead. Rondo, Allen, Pierce and KG coudn't reach the finals 3 years ago it's time to move on.

My vantage point is the Lakers arent going to rebuild anytime soon... and these guys are low risk/high reward type players with an abdunane of experience.

I do see it.

1-2 year contracts for Garnett/Pierce would be inline with the Lakers long term plans.

They are still effective role players, which is what they would be, no one is asking them to be All Stars again.

But in a reserve role/locker room presence/championship utility experience they are perfect.

No matter how you rebuild, youre not going to win a championship without a blend of veterans... look at today's cavs - all the talent in the world and yet they are dismal because they lack experience.

I'am hoping the Lakers are done going the old players route. It's a waste of time.

We are just having a discussion here... but no one is saying the Lakers roster 1 through 12 needs to be in their 30s or near retirement.

Adding some championship experience and veteran blend to the mix is a long time formula for winning championships in this league.

Rondo, Pierce and Garnett? You trying to recreate a Celtics team in the west?

Yea, kinda.

If the Lakers are seriously interested in Rondo, that is.

Theses guys would be no more than 12 - 20 minutes type of players on a championship team next season...

The West is a murderer's row at this point. It will likely take either luck or some incredibly savvy offseason moves on the part of Mitch plus a top 5 pick this year [Okafor and Randle would be a great frontcourt to build on] to even think about contending before the Kobe era is over.

Randle
Okafor or Downs in 15'...
Westbrook in 17'
A.Davis in 17'
Kobe at 39 in 17', for one more ring run taking vet min and getting all time points crown...

Dream mode off...

Why would we want our ex-Celtics enemies on our Lakers? I still don't know why we even got Nash.

Huh? Not going to rebuild anytime soon? If you're in the lottery 2 years in a row then you're rebuilding.
